Job Brief

Lethbridge Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, positive, and thoughtful customer and circulation assistant to provide exceptional customer service in Lethbridge.

This position combines two roles: Customer Assistant and Circulation Assistant, with at least half the hours dedicated to the Customer Assistant role.

This is a term appointment ending upon the incumbent's return, expected by April 2026.

Your Typical Day at LPL Includes
  1. Serving as the first point of contact for library members.
  2. Creating memberships, managing fines and fees, checking out materials, and related circulation tasks.
  3. Providing basic reference and reader’s advisory assistance.
  4. Resolving operational customer issues related to circulation and service.
  5. Troubleshooting computers, printers, photocopiers, self-checkout stations, and other equipment.
  6. Performing opening and closing duties at the customer service point.
  7. Processing returned materials and monitoring their condition for minor repairs.
  8. Running circulation reports and resolving related issues.
  9. Supporting outreach activities, programs, and collection maintenance, including monitoring use and assessing damaged items.
  10. Setting up meeting rooms and assisting with equipment as needed.
  11. Performing other duties as required.
What You Need To Bring To This Position
  • High school diploma; post-secondary education or training is an asset.
  • Experience in customer service and cash handling.
  • Proficiency with office computers and basic troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, especially teens.
  • Cultural awareness, non-judgmental attitude, and sensitivity to different backgrounds.
  • Interest in library programming for various audiences is an asset.
  • Effective communication and listening skills.
  • Good judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Commitment to privacy and confidentiality in handling customer information.
Hours of Work and Location
  • 75 hours bi-weekly, including days, evenings, and weekends.
  • Based at the Crossings Branch, reporting to the Manager: Branch Services.
Salary Range

Customer Assistant: $22.44 – $26.53 hourly (C.U.P.E. Local 70, under review).

Circulation Assistant: $20.05 – $23.66 hourly (C.U.P.E. Local 70, under review).

Note

The successful candidate must complete a Police Information Check prior to starting.
