Job Description

What is the role?

The Category Analyst reports directly to the Category Manager and provides support by assisting in the introduction of new products, supporting all aspects of the administration of marketing and promotional activities, and preparing store communications. The incumbent will work in conjunction with the Category Manager to facilitate effective communication between Vendors, Marketing, Inventory Management, Visual Merchandising, support groups, and stores.

What will you do?

• Manage all aspects of new item setup and maintenance, including vendor data, lifecycle, listing types, descriptions, web info, duty classification, and import permits.
• Collect and complete New Product Listing forms.
• Generate reports on item performance and provide recommendations to the Category Manager and Vendors.
• Collaborate with Marketing & the Category Manager to execute marketing and promotional activities.
• Assist with evaluations of cost changes and review of cost change templates.
• Coordinate pricing levels with the Pricing Team, including cost change templates and promotional pricing.
• Work with Inventory Management on product forecasting and solutions for service level issues.
• Prepare store communications for new products, promotions, and sales.
• Coordinate product samples and content for the monthly store Call-to-Action.
• Assist in designing and communicating planograms to store teams.
• Maintain the image database.
• Complete and archive Purchase Agreements.
• Produce training presentations on new product launches and product knowledge.
• Collaborate with the website team to ensure accurate product content, copy, and images.
• Handle vendor inquiries and issues as needed.
• Perform administrative duties and other projects as assigned.
• Serve as back-up for the Category Manager when unavailable.

What will you need to succeed?

Education and Experience

• 2-5 years supporting a purchasing or buying department, preferably in retail.
• Post-secondary education focusing on Business, Retail, Marketing, or Communications.

Knowledge and Skills

• Strong organizational skills and a sense of urgency.
• Attention to detail and excellent follow-up skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Professional manner, tact, diplomacy, and discretion when dealing with vendors and colleagues, including Senior Management.
