Job description

The Board of Education of the Light of Christ Catholic School Division No. 16 invites applications for the position of EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT at St. Peter's Elementary School in Unity, SK.

This is a temporary part-time (0.50 FTE) position commencing May 1, 2025 and terminating on June 25, 2025.

Qualifications

1. Preference will be given to practicing Catholics.
2. A Grade 12 diploma from a provincially recognized institution.
3. One year of post-secondary training in a program such as Early Childhood Development, Teacher Assistant, Youth Worker, or Rehabilitation Worker, or equivalent post-secondary education in a related area from a provincially recognized institution is considered a strong asset.
4. Educational Assistants shall possess knowledge that is basic to this occupation, including: cultural awareness, interpersonal communication, supporting instruction, family dynamics, health, roles and responsibilities of an educational assistant and their relationship with teachers and other professionals, behavior theories and their application in managing behavior, basic care skills, self-protection strategies, and understanding individuals with exceptionalities.
5. A valid driver’s license.
6. Proficiency with technology.
7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
8. Ability to work independently and take initiative within the scope of delegated authority.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Assist classroom teachers in providing individual and group support.
2. Implement strategies and techniques and assist with classroom management according to school guidelines.
3. Conduct oneself in a manner appropriate to a Catholic educational environment, demonstrating respect for Catholic morals and values.
4. Promote an atmosphere of respect for children and adults.
5. Collaborate with volunteers and staff, and participate in other duties and special projects as assigned.
6. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with Ministry of Education and Justice standards.
