Our Communication Department is looking for a dedicated Communication Strategist to join the team.
Position Responsibilities
In the role of the Communication Strategist, you will be responsible for:
- The development, implementation, maintenance and evaluation of department communications plans
- Anticipating communications needs within client departments by connecting and making sense of diverse information arising from multiple sources.
- Development of key messages for department announcements, services and programs.
- As assigned, create communication items for the Mayor and Council, including speaking notes and script notes.
- Prepare and publish client department news releases, including the preparation of inserted Mayor's quotes.
- Escalate communications issues appropriately through to the Communication Director and provide corresponding support, including research, messaging and FAQs as required.
- Action routine and emergent daily communication outputs for client departments.
- Develop campaigns for individual projects and initiatives and align with the corporate social media strategy.
- Writing, editing and creating content across a variety of mediums, styles and tones.
- Observing and noticing trends in the communications and marketing industry to bring forward for consideration.
- Development of emergency communication materials during activations of the Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership.
Qualifications
- A Business Administration Diploma with a major in Communications, Marketing, or Management will be highly regarded. An Undergraduate Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Political Science, Marketing, or a related field is also considered an asset.
- Demonstrated experience of 2-3 years in progressively responsible roles in communications, community engagement, or public relations, preferably within the public sector.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
- Proficiency in executing and evaluating strategic communications plans.
- Working knowledge of digital content management systems and various social media platforms.
- Proven experience in writing for diverse mediums, including social media, web, and print.
- Strong collaboration skills, with a history of liaising and consulting with internal clients and external stakeholders to understand concerns and provide solutions to communication and public relations issues.
- Ability to develop key messages and mitigation strategies for organizational items and issues.
- Experience in public consultation, stakeholder engagement, networking, and collaboration. This includes expertise in producing large-scale promotions or campaign-based initiatives, online engagement, and in-person engagement events.
- Demonstrated experience managing projects from initiation to completion, including planning, coordination and delivery within scope, timeline and budget.
- Proven experience and tact for managing client relationships, including understanding needs, providing solutions and ensuring consistent satisfaction and service delivery.
Hours
The standard workweek consists of an average of 35 hours. Forecasted afterhours work is sometimes required.
Compensation
Starting salary $40.03 per hour as per the Out-of-Scope Agreement.
