Job description

Burton Recruitment has been exclusively retained to appoint a Chief Commercial Officer for our client, a market-leading energy solutions provider in the North West. This executive position offers a unique opportunity to drive commercial strategy within the utility sector at C-suite level.

THE COMPANY

Our client delivers innovative energy management solutions to high-profile organisations across the UK. Established for over a decade, they have built a strong reputation for excellence in the complex Industrial & Commercial (I&C) energy sector. The business continues to grow significantly, making this a particularly exciting time to join their leadership team.

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the successful candidate will develop and execute the overall commercial strategy, with full responsibility for revenue generation, business development, and customer engagement. This is a pivotal board-level appointment.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Developing commercial strategy aligned with business objectives
  • Overseeing pricing models and revenue-generating activities
  • Implementing customer acquisition and retention strategies
  • Identifying market expansion opportunities
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance across all commercial activities
  • Leading and developing the commercial team
  • Analysing market trends and competitor activities
  • Working cross-functionally with operations, marketing and finance
  • Managing commercial risks
  • Monitoring KPIs and reporting to the board
  • Budget management and forecasting

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Extensive experience in non-domestic/I&C energy supply is essential
  • Strong understanding of industrial energy supply market dynamics and regulations
  • Experience in supporting clients with ESG and decarbonisation strategies
  • Track record of driving growth through value-based rather than purely price-driven approaches
  • Commercial acumen with ability to maintain profitability while delivering customer value
  • Strategic thinking balanced with hands-on, practical implementation skills
  • Collaborative leadership style – no "ivory tower" approach
  • Genuine passion for the energy sector and sustainability

REMUNERATION
