Teckhorizon Inc is seeking up to 10 Digital Architects to support the Government of Alberta's initiative for enhancing public services through digital transformation. This full-time, remote role requires extensive experience in solution architecture and agile methodologies, focusing on delivering citizen-centric digital services. The successful candidates will collaborate with cross-functional teams, providing architectural leadership and mentoring while ensuring alignment with technical standards.

The Government of Alberta (GoA) is transforming how public services are delivered to provide simpler, more efficient, and citizen-centric digital services. The Digital Design and Delivery (3D) team partners with various ministries including Justice, Advanced Education, Indigenous Relations, Seniors, Children s Services, and Service Alberta to lead service innovation, program reviews, and digital transformation initiatives.
To support this initiative, the GoA seeks up to 10 Digital Architects to collaborate on cross-functional teams. These teams, led by GoA Product Owners and 3D, are responsible for end-to-end delivery of digital services conducting user research, refining product backlogs, and executing agile delivery plans.
Scope of WorkThe Digital Architect will:
Provide strategic and architectural guidance for digital services.
Align delivery with technical standards and GoA s overall architecture vision.
Contribute to sprint planning, backlog refinement, and solution implementation.
Act as the senior technical resource on the team, mentoring members and contributing to code when necessary.
Help balance delivery between business/user needs and technical quality.
Delivered iteratively over the course of the engagement:
Solution Architecture Leadership
Develop and maintain architecture plans using agile and citizen-centered approaches.
Analyze current system contexts and recommend future-state designs.
Design scalable solutions accounting for implementation feasibility and risk.
Team Implementation Support
Guide the team through iterative delivery, ensuring alignment with architectural goals.
Recommend technical approaches, integrations, and use of shared capabilities.
Review and contribute to code; coach team members.
Vision & Practice Contribution
Shape platform-wide architectural vision using reusable components.
Develop architectural principles, metrics, and standards.
Prepare and present architecture documentation tailored to technical and non-technical audiences.
Continuously improve architecture practices within the GoA.
Primary Location: Remote (within Canada).
Travel: Occasional travel to Alberta (e.g., Edmonton) may be required with reasonable notice. Travel expenses are not covered by the Province.
Equipment: The contractor is responsible for providing necessary hardware/software unless otherwise specified.
Workload: Full-time (7.25 hours/day), up to 1,960 hours annually, across one or two concurrent projects.
Must provide a current Criminal Record Check upon request.
For Justice-related projects, an Enhanced Security Clearance is required.
Some roles may require RCMP Top Secret Clearance during the engagement.
Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
5+ years: Leading solution architecture for digital services.
5+ years: Working as a software architect in agile environments.
5+ years: Software development experience across various platforms.
5+ years: Mentoring teams in agile principles and development.
5+ years: Communicating technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
5+ years: Working with open-source ecosystems (e.g., Node.js, NPM).
2+ years: Using and integrating cloud services (AWS, Azure, etc.).
2+ years: Implementing DevSecOps practices.
5+ years: Modernizing legacy systems.
5+ years: Application architecture and maintenance at enterprise scale.
5+ years: Acting as a senior technical advocate for architecture.
2+ years: Working in teams involving UX, service design, or human-centered design.
4+ years: Leading data modeling and schema design.
4+ years: Working with data analytics tools/solutions.
4+ years: Collaborating with cross-functional architectural teams.
At the end of each resume, provide two (2) project examples per candidate. For each example, answer the following:
Overview of the project and role of the Digital Architect.
Sector (public, private, or other).
Project size (less than $100K, $500K, $1M, or more than $1M).
Describe the delivery approach: methodology, risk mitigation, QA, and communication.
