The role we are offering you:

We are seeking a highly motivated Technology and/or Intellectual Property Lawyer to join our dynamic legal team. The ideal candidate will have 3-4 years of experience in technology and/or IP law, with a strong background in handling legal matters related to intellectual property development, technology transactions, AI, and data privacy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice and support on a wide range of technology and IP-related matters, including innovation and R&D, data, licensing, AI procuring and developing, independent developments, and copyright issues.

  • Draft, review, and negotiate various technology-related agreements with significant IP components (e.g., partnership, development, data or software licensing, SaaS, and other IP-related contracts).

  • Conduct legal research and analysis on emerging technology and IP issues, and provide strategic guidance to the business.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product development, engineering, communications and marketing, to ensure compliance with IP laws and regulation, including AI.

  • Take on initiatives to implement or improve current policies and processes in line with current business needs and anticipated company growth.

  • Participate in the development of tools (including training tools) for the legal department and for the other CAE departments.

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in technology and IP law, and provide training and education to internal stakeholders.


Qualifications:

  • An excellent command of French and English (oral and written) and good writing skills;

  • A Bachelor of Laws degree (common law or equivalent experience is sought for);

  • Bar membership in Québec, Ontario, or another jurisdiction;

  • A minimum of three years’ relevant experience in high-technology and IP law (primarily copyrights) within a company or a national law firm;

  • Strong knowledge of IP laws and regulations, including patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret laws

  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills;

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment;

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and creativity, with a keen attention to detail;

  • Ability to work under pressure with a variety of clients;

  • Ability to efficiently manage priorities;

  • Team spirit;

  • A love of learning and knowledge sharing;

  • Initiative and a proactive attitude;

  • Experience in government procurement would be considered an asset;

  • Proficient skills in the use of Microsoft Office 365 environment, including Copilot.
