The role we are offering you:
We are seeking a highly motivated Technology and/or Intellectual Property Lawyer to join our dynamic legal team. The ideal candidate will have 3-4 years of experience in technology and/or IP law, with a strong background in handling legal matters related to intellectual property development, technology transactions, AI, and data privacy.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide legal advice and support on a wide range of technology and IP-related matters, including innovation and R&D, data, licensing, AI procuring and developing, independent developments, and copyright issues.
Draft, review, and negotiate various technology-related agreements with significant IP components (e.g., partnership, development, data or software licensing, SaaS, and other IP-related contracts).
Conduct legal research and analysis on emerging technology and IP issues, and provide strategic guidance to the business.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product development, engineering, communications and marketing, to ensure compliance with IP laws and regulation, including AI.
Take on initiatives to implement or improve current policies and processes in line with current business needs and anticipated company growth.
Participate in the development of tools (including training tools) for the legal department and for the other CAE departments.
Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in technology and IP law, and provide training and education to internal stakeholders.
Qualifications:
An excellent command of French and English (oral and written) and good writing skills;
A Bachelor of Laws degree (common law or equivalent experience is sought for);
Bar membership in Québec, Ontario, or another jurisdiction;
A minimum of three years’ relevant experience in high-technology and IP law (primarily copyrights) within a company or a national law firm;
Strong knowledge of IP laws and regulations, including patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret laws
Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills;
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment;
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and creativity, with a keen attention to detail;
Ability to work under pressure with a variety of clients;
Ability to efficiently manage priorities;
Team spirit;
A love of learning and knowledge sharing;
Initiative and a proactive attitude;
Experience in government procurement would be considered an asset;
Proficient skills in the use of Microsoft Office 365 environment, including Copilot.
