Job description

Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts is hiring Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators II for Whittier, CA or Valencia, CA.

The Sanitation Districts clean the wastewater of over 5 million people and turn it into resources 24/7. They operate 11 wastewater treatment facilities, treating approximately 510 million gallons per day (MGD) of wastewater, with 165 MGD available for reuse. All plants are strategically located to maximize water reuse and ensure the cleaned water is returned to waterways, reservoirs, or the Pacific Ocean.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

To lead a crew, coordinate, and participate in water reclamation operations at a wastewater treatment plant.

JOB SUMMARY :

Under the supervision of a Treatment Plant Operations Supervisor, incumbents lead other operators and perform complex operational duties, including:

• Touring assigned areas to ensure proper station functioning.
• Reviewing work procedures.
• Providing training to maintain efficiency, safety, and technical standards.
• Implementing special operating orders.
• Checking logs and charts, evaluating instrument readings.
• Analyzing laboratory data to ensure plant operates within prescribed parameters.
• Reporting irregularities or repairs and suggesting corrective actions.
• Overseeing routine maintenance performed by workers.
• Ordering parts and supplies.
• Training crew members.
• Maintaining employee time records.
• Scheduling and conducting plant tours.
• Participating in crew work.
• Traveling to other work sites as needed.
• Performing related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

• Valid California Class C driver license.
• High school diploma or equivalent, such as passing a GED test or holding a Certificate of Proficiency per Education Code section 48412.
• Grade III or higher Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate from the California State Water Resources Control Board.

At least 2.5 years of experience performing duties of a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator.
