Job description

Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts is hiring Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators II for Whittier, CA or Valencia, CA.

The Sanitation Districts manage wastewater for over 5 million people, operating 11 treatment facilities that collectively treat approximately 510 million gallons of wastewater daily, with 165 million gallons available for reuse. These facilities are strategically located throughout the County to maximize water reuse and ensure the treated water is safely returned to waterways, reservoirs, or the Pacific Ocean.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

To lead a crew, coordinate, and participate in water reclamation operations at a wastewater treatment plant.

JOB SUMMARY :

Under the supervision of a Treatment Plant Operations Supervisor, incumbents lead other operators and perform complex operational duties, including:

1. Touring assigned areas to ensure proper station functioning.
2. Specifying and reviewing work procedures.
3. Providing instructions or training to maintain efficiency, safety, and technical standards.
4. Implementing special operating orders.
5. Checking logs and charts for proper entries and evaluating instrument readings.
6. Evaluating laboratory data to ensure plant operation within prescribed parameters.
7. Reporting irregularities or repairs needed and recommending corrective actions.
8. Assigning and supervising routine maintenance tasks.
9. Ordering parts and supplies.
10. Training crew members.
11. Maintaining employee time records.
12. Conducting plant tours.
13. Participating in crew work activities.
14. Traveling to different work sites.
15. Performing related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

• Valid California Class C driver license.
• High school diploma or equivalent, such as passing an approved GED test or obtaining a Certificate of Proficiency per Education Code section 48412.
• Grade III or higher Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board.
• At least 2.5 years of experience performing duties of a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator.
