Responsibilities
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences.
  • Manage portion control of food items.
  • Follow safety precautions in your assigned area, report unsafe incidents or equipment issues to management, and adhere to safety procedures.
  • Operate equipment safely, including documenting temperatures of pot wash, dish machines, refrigerators, and freezers, and follow up as needed.
  • Deliver catering to various hospital locations, including picking up dirty dishes for washing.
  • Observe time limits for meal service and maintain proper food temperatures.
  • Assist cooks in preparing uncooked foods like salads, vegetables, and fruits, and follow instructions for simple food preparations.
  • Clear plates and trays, load and operate dishwashers, and clean pots, pans, and utensils as per procedures.
  • Assist with daily prep list tasks for cooks.
  • Properly store and label dietary supplies and leftovers.
  • Check and document temperatures and tastes of food items, follow HACCP guidelines, and take corrective actions as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment, utensils, and work areas.
  • Set up for catering events, including linens, chair covers, equipment, and other customer requests.
  • Adhere to departmental policies on quality assurance, safety, infection control, and environmental standards.
  • Assemble nourishment carts and stock kitchenettes.
  • Participate in meetings and educational programs as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Requirements
  • Complete or be enrolled in a Food Service Worker Program compliant with the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act.
  • Possess a Food Handler Certification approved by the Public Health Department.
  • Be available to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
  • Capable of doing moderate to heavy lifting.
  • Able to stand for long periods.
  • Have a current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Experience working in a kitchen or food service setting is preferred.
