The Enterprise Chief Controls Office (ECCO) is a centralized first line of defense group with the goal of embedding a culture of risk ownership and operational excellence by elevating the control environment and driving consistency and quality of risk practices to minimize loss and regulatory sanction, drive cost efficiencies, and accelerate execution to enable growth. The Process Risk COE serves to elevate risk capability, reduce operational risk, and realize cost savings from errors across the bank by enabling the first line to standardize and manage processes, and serving
as a risk advisory partner.
Description of Role
Reporting to the VP, Process Risk COE and Strategic Execution, under the newly formed Enterprise Chief Controls Office (ECCO) the Director, Risk Advisory is responsible to build an agile risk response capability to support 1LOD in addressing process-related risks and provide advisory support to mitigate risks in high-impact areas using standard tools and frameworks. This role will help enhance the organization’s risk culture and control environment by enabling proactive and consistent management of process risks. Primary responsibilities include:
1. Risk Advisory and Response Leadership (35%)
2. Team Management and Capability Building (25%)
3. Stakeholder Engagement and Business Enablement (20%)
Job Description
What will you do?
- Risk Advisory and Response Leadership
- Advisory Execution and Risk Response: Deliver end-to-end advisory engagements, guiding 1LOD through proactive issue identification and resolution using process diagnostics, mitigation strategies aligned to 2LOD enterprise frameworks.
- Methodology and Tooling Development: Advance the design and consistent use of scalable tools, templates, and methods that embed proactive risk identification, process engineering, and data-driven decision making.
- Team Management and Capability Building: Build and lead a high-performing team of risk professionals; coach and scale core capabilities across process risk, controls, analytics and root cause analysis.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Business Enablement
- Stakeholder Collaboration and Business Enablement: Serve as a strategic advisor to 1LOD leaders, fostering risk ownership, and embedding risk practices that support scalable, compliant and resilient operations that enable business outcomes. This role will collaborate with 1LOD and 2LOD to determine operational risk areas of focus across the enterprise.
- Strategic Alignment and Risk Insights: Ensure alignment to ECCO and enterprise priorities, using engagement insights to inform continuous improvement and enterprise-wide risk practice evolution.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- Experience in risk management, internal controls, process improvement or a related field within the financial services industry
- Proven track record of leading and implementing risk management initiatives at an enterprise level
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and industry best practices related to risk management and control frameworks
- Strong background in process mapping, root cause analysis, and application of data and technology to inform risk decisions
- Comfortable working in ambiguous situations and across different lines of business
- Proven ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders, including executive leadership, to drive operational risk strategies and initiatives
- Experience developing and coaching high-performing teams, with a focus on embedding sustainable risk practices
- Track record of delivering operational efficiency and risk reduction through structure frameworks and engagement models
- Experience in leading change management efforts related to risk management processes and systems, ensuring successful adoption and integration across the first line of defense
- Deep expertise working within the financial services industry

- Strategic Thinking and Thought Leadership: Ability to think critically and strategically about risk management practices and their impact on organizational objectives. Routinely monitor industry trends and technology trends to determine capabilities to bring into RBC.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, wit the ability to articulate complex risk concepts clearly and persuasively to various audiences, including senior leadership and regulatory bodies.
- Planning and Project Execution: Proficiency in project management, including the ability to plan, execute, and oversee multiple risk management initiatives simultaneously.
- Problem-Solving: Advanced problem-solving skills to identify risk-related issues, develop innovative solutions, and implement effective risk mitigation strategies.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with risk management and process mapping software and tools, and the ability to leverage technology to enhance risk identification and control processes.
