Job summary

Algoma District School Board seeks a Specialized Programming Teacher (1.0 FTE) for Northern Heights Public School starting September 2026. You will provide direct instruction to students withdrawn for specialized programming blocks, focusing on self-regulation, social skills, and literacy/numeracy within an IEP framework.

Responsibilities include developing and monitoring programming, collaborating with staff, and documenting progress and plans while supporting ADSB's inclusive education

Qualifications

• Special Ed Part One required; Specialist preferred.
• Training to deliver the Empower Reading program if requested.
• Experience developing and implementing IEPs, Behaviour Management Plans, and/or Safety Plans.
• Experience in high-yield strategies to develop and implement programming interventions, strategies, and resources.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to use computer applications and software.
• Interpersonal skills to work with students, staff, parents and community agencies.
• Knowledge of legislation, regulations, policy & program memoranda and ADSB policies and practices.

• Collaborate with school-based and system-based staff to support students with special education needs.
• Communicate with system-based and school-based staff and parent/guardians regarding IEPs and related plans.
• Prepare documentation, including alternative report cards for students.
• Gather and provide reports and statistics as required; participate in professional development.
• Project a positive image of special education programs in the Board.
• Other duties as assigned.

SPECIALIZED PROGRAMMING TEACHER (1.0 FTE)

NORTHERN HEIGHTS PUBLIC SCHOOL

DESCRIPTION OF THE ROLE

As a resource teacher, the Specialized Programming Teacher provides direct instruction to an assigned caseload of students who are withdrawn from the regular classroom to participate in programming blocks. Specialized programming support will focus on alternative programming (e.g. self-regulation, social skills) outlined in an Individual Education Plan, or additional support for modified academic programming focused on literacy and numeracy. Many students on caseload will require support in both areas.

The Specialized Programming Teacher model is offered at specific schools to support students within their home school community. Programming will be specific to the caseload needs of the school site.

Skills and Experience Required:

• Special Ed Part One required, Specialist preferred)
• Training in, or willingness to participate in training to deliver the Empower Reading program if requested.
• Experience developing and implementing IEPs, Behaviour Management Plans, and/or Safety Plans
• Experience in the use of high-yield strategies to develop and implement a range of programming interventions, strategies, and resources
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to use a variety of computer applications and software
• Interpersonal skills that would facilitate working effectively with students, staff, parents, and community agencies
• Knowledge of legislation, regulations, policy & program memoranda, and ADSB policies, procedures and practices pertaining to special education

Duties will include but are not limited to:

• Develop, implement, and monitor special education programming and services to address the specific needs of individual students
• Collaborate with other school-based and system-based staff to support the achievement and well- being of students with special education needs
• Communicate as necessary with system-based staff, school-based staff, and/or parent/guardians regarding Individual Education Plans, Behaviour Management Plans, Safety Plans and/or other programming
• Prepare pertinent documentation, including completion of alternative report cards for students
• Gather and provide reports, documents and statistical information as requiredParticipate in professional development and/or training as required
• Project a positive image of special education programs and services in the Board
• Other duties as may be assigned
