Job summary

Miller Waste Systems in Ottawa is looking for a DZ Driver/Picker to safely collect residential waste streams, including yard waste, recycling, and garbage. You will follow routes, operate a two-person or single-person truck and ensure proper disposal at transfer stations in compliance with regulations.

The role requires a valid DZ licence, a clean driving record, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Weekend work may be required; immediate start date.

Qualifications

• Valid DZ Driver’s Licence.
• Clean driving record with no preventable accidents in the past year.
• Minimum 1 year experience on each equipment type is an asset.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Flexibility to work Saturdays, weekends and holidays.
• Effective written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Be responsible for various residential waste stream collections.
• This may include Yard Waste Collection, Blue Box and/or Green Bin Collection and Residential Garbage Collection.
• Provide customers with reliable and high-quality customer service as the proper disposal of the waste streams are vital to the health and well-being of the residents of the community that you are servicing.
• Adhere to the collection and delivery schedule to ensure all collected various waste streams are to be delivered to local Transfer Stations, Compost Facilities or Landfill Sites in an efficient and appropriate manner.
• Follow all relevant policies and procedures of the Company, the MTO, Ministry of Environment as well as the by-laws of the Municipality in which you are working.
• Work with employees, management, resident and members of the public in a polite and respectful manner at all times.
• All waste receptacles that are emptied into the collection vehicle must be placed back on the resident's property, flipped upside down at the curb, in the same place that they were removed from.
• Lift and load garbage bags or cans weighing up to 50 lbs. from the ground into the hopper of a 2-person truck or into a side loader of a 1-person truck.
• Make in excess of 800 residential stops per day.
