Job summary

The Davey Tree Expert Company is hiring a Driver-Arborist Assistant to join our team in Carp, Ontario. You will drive a commercial truck with crew and equipment to various job sites and assist with pruning, removal, and safety-focused tasks.

Responsibilities include inspections, equipment maintenance, and working with the foreperson to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard. Training and benefits are provided.

Qualifications

• Valid provincial driver’s license (AZ or DZ preferred).
• Clean driving abstract required.
• Experience in forestry, horticulture, or landscaping preferred.
• Arborist certification or willingness to pursue certification.

• Perform and log daily pre- and post-trip inspections.
• Maintain cleanliness of the truck and operate safely with the crew.
• Support ground crew and crew leader on site.
• Conduct pruning and removal tasks safely and skillfully.

Position Overview

As a driver with Davey Tree you will be responsible for ensuring the crew and equipment arrive at the job site safely and on time. Once at site you will join the rest of the crew as an Arborist Assistant; providing your in-depth knowledge and skills to ensure the job gets done right and on time.

Job Duties

• Drive a commercial truck with crew and equipment to various job sites as required.
• Perform and log daily pre and post trip inspections of the vehicle.
• Maintain cleanliness of the truck, keeping interior and exterior of vehicle free of debris.
• Operate as an active crew member with supporting ground crew and crew leader.
• Perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients.

Including but not limited to:

• Pruning, thinning, and removing deadwood throughout the tree canopy.
• Installation of cables, bracing and lightning protection systems.
• Removal of hazardous trees.
• Properly maintain, prepare, and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts and more.
• Assist the trimmers and foreperson in job site setup, debris removal and cleanup.
• Abide by Davey and industry safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Valid provincial driver’s license. AZ or DZ license.
• Clean drivers abstract.
• Preferred background in Forestry, Horticulture or Landscaping.
• Arborist certification or willingness to work towards.
• Strong tree, knot and shrub identification skills.
• Understanding and implementation of the process of safely ascending tree canopies at all heights.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Ability to work safely as part of a team and possess the willingness to learn and progress.

Additional Information

• Full time. Year-round employment.
• $20-$25/hour. Wage will be determined based on education, experience, and relevant qualifications or certifications.
