Job summary

Davey Tree Expert Co. of Canada, Limited is seeking a driver who will support our Arborist team in Carp, Ontario. You will transport crew and equipment to job sites, conduct routine vehicle inspections and help with pruning and removal tasks.

You will operate tools safely, assist with site setup and debris cleanup, and follow Davey’s safety policies. Training and career growth are provided in a collaborative, employee-owned organization.

Qualifications

• Valid provincial driver’s license required.
• AZ or DZ license preferred or required.
• Arborist certification or willingness to work towards.
• Strong tree, knot and shrub identification skills.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Ability to work safely as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Drive a commercial truck with crew and equipment to job sites.
• Log daily pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Maintain cleanliness of the truck.
• Operate as part of the crew on pruning and removal tasks.
• Perform pruning, thinning, removal, and installation of supports as needed.
• Operate tools/equipment safely (chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts).
• Support the foreperson with site setup and cleanup.
• Follow safety policies and procedures.

Position Overview

As a driver with Davey Tree you will be responsible for ensuring the crew and equipment arrive at the job site safely and on time. Once at site you will join the rest of the crew as an Arborist Assistant; providing your in-depth knowledge and skills to ensure the job gets done right and on time.

Job Duties

• Drive a commercial truck with crew and equipment to various job sites as required.
• Perform and log daily pre and post trip inspections of the vehicle.
• Maintain cleanliness of the truck, keeping interior and exterior of vehicle free of debris.
• Operate as an active crew member with supporting ground crew and crew leader.
• Perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients.

Including but not limited to:

• Pruning, thinning, and removing deadwood throughout the tree canopy.
• Installation of cables, bracing and lightning protection systems.
• Removal of hazardous trees.

• Properly maintain, prepare, and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts and more.
• Assist the trimmers and foreperson in job site setup, debris removal and cleanup.

• Abide by Davey and industry safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Valid provincial driver’s license. AZ or DZ license.
• Clean drivers abstract.
• Preferred background in Forestry, Horticulture or Landscaping.
• Arborist certification or willingness to work towards.
• Strong tree, knot and shrub identification skills.
• Understanding and implementation of the process of safely ascending tree canopies at all heights.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Ability to work safely as part of a team and possess the willingness to learn and progress.

Additional Information

• Full time. Year-round employment.
• $20-$25/hour. Wage will be determined based on education, experience, and relevant qualifications or certifications.
