Job summary

Covenant Care in Calgary, Alberta seeks a Health Care Aide to support residents with compassion and respect. The role emphasizes person-centered care, privacy, independence, and collaboration with an interdisciplinary team.

You will assist with personal care, social activities and end-of-life support, while maintaining confidentiality and upholding Covenant Care’s mission and values. A Certificate as Health Care Aide and enrollment in the Alberta directory are required or in process.

Qualifications

• Minimum Grade 12 completed.
• Completed Health Care Aide Certificate.
• Proof of enrollment in the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory.
• 2 years of experience as a HCA in a healthcare facility.
• Experience in Hospice Palliative Care is preferred.
• LEAP Personal Support Worker course or equivalent is an asset.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary team.
• Dementia education is an asset.
• 6 months to 1 year of experience in an Assisted Living/Continuing Care facility preferred.
• Ability to speak, read and write English fluently.
• Ability to speak French an asset.
• Computer skills an asset.
• Must be vaccinated against all required communicable diseases per Covenant Care’s policy

Position Summary:

As a member of the care team, the Health Care Aide (HCA) provides support to residents, their family and visitors in a home-like environment that enables independence, choice, dignity, privacy and individuality. An individual in this position assists residents as necessary in areas of personal care, social support, and assisting residents to participate in recreation and leisure activities.

The position requires the ability to communicate in all forms (reading, writing, clear verbal articulation and active listening) to implement recommendations and develop plans and procedures in accordance with Covenant Care’s protocol and also with applicable legislation. Information learned and shared is extremely sensitive, and it is expected that the Health Care Aide maintains absolute confidentiality.

• This position is responsible for providing resident carein a way that acknowledges resident choice, dignity, privacy, independence, culture, spirituality and individuality inclusive of a home-like environment.
• Ensuring service is provided in a manner reflective of Covenant Care’s standards.
• Maintaining a close working relationship with the interdisciplinary team.
• Consistently promoting teamwork and cooperation within the team.

In accordance with Covenant Care’s mission, vision, and values, this position is responsible for ensuring that residents receive quality care and service according to Covenant Care policies and procedures. Provides support to residents, their family and visitors during the resident’s end of life journey that will enable choice, dignity, privacy, respect and individuality.

This position will:

Qualifications:

• Minimum Grade 12 required
• Completed recognized Health Care Aide Certificate
• Proof of enrollment in the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory
• 2 years experience working as a HCA in a healthcare facility
• Experience in Hospice Palliative Care, comfortable working with residents at End of Life
• Completion of LEAP Personal Support Worker course or equivalent as asset
• Ability to work in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment with an Interdisciplinary team
• Dementia education an asset
• 6 months to 1 year of experience in an Assisted Living/Continuing Care facility preferred
• Ability to speak, read and write English fluently
• Ability to speak French an asset
