Job description

Founded in 1989, AFD Petroleum is a leading independent supplier of fuel, lubricants, and storage solutions across Alberta, B.C., Yukon, and Alaska. With over three decades of experience, we’re committed to delivering reliable service, innovative solutions, and lasting value, centered on our people, our customers, and our communities.

Job Summary:

Our Driver Trainer makes sure every AFD driver loads, handles, and delivers fuel safely and the right way. Reporting to the HSE Field Supervisor and working hand in hand with our Transportation team, you’ll train new and existing drivers on fuel loading, product handling, pump operations, and delivery to customer tanks, AFD storage, and cardlocks. You’ll coordinate refinery test loads for new hires, run field orientation, complete pre-employment check rides, and carry out annual and post-incident evaluations. You’ll also support graduates coming through the Driver Readiness Program, take part in driver safety meetings, follow up on FLHAs, and join customer site inspections. If you know fuel and enjoy coaching other drivers to do it safely, this role puts that experience to work.

Your Schedule:

Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with some overtime and after-hours work as needed. Regular travel to AFD branch locations, customer sites, refineries, and delivery routes across the assigned region is a core part of this role.

Why AFD:
  • Great health and insurance benefits – medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, AD&D – because we believe in taking care of yourself.
  • Paid orientation & training.
  • Personal/Sick Paid Days.
What you will do day-to-day:

  • Teach drivers to verify the right product, tank, and compartment before every load and delivery.
  • Make sure drivers follow AFD Safe Job Procedures (SJPs) and TDG requirements from loading through delivery.
  • Conduct and document classroom and behind-the-wheel training, and re-train drivers as needed.
  • Complete pre-employment check rides to help select new candidates.
  • Perform annual and post-incident driver evaluations and recommend corrective action to the HSE Field Supervisor and Transportation Manager.
  • Review FLHAs completed by drivers and identify corrective actions or alternative solutions.
  • Keep customer site maps current and flag hazards drivers may encounter during delivery.
  • Work with the Transportation team to line up training with dispatch and operational needs.
  • Lead, coach, and motivate trainees throughout the training program.
  • Share field observations with HSE to help improve fuel handling training and processes.
  • Support recruiting by sharing industry and equipment knowledge, engaging candidates directly, and assisting at industry events.
