Job Description

DRIVER APPRENTICE – G TO D PROGRAM

At Waste Management, we recognize the challenges of obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License and the associated costs. That’s why WM developed a program for Apprentice Drivers to help you get from a G to a D license, providing training, work experience, and tuition reimbursement for Driver’s School.

The Job

This is a helper/G-D position involving pullouts with a pickup truck, which must be manually moved. After receiving their Commercial Driving Permit, the Driver Apprentice will train with experienced WM Drivers to safely operate commercial vehicles, continuing until all training is complete.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Valid G-class Driver’s License.
• Registration within 3 months of hire with a recognized driving school for DZ license.
• Completion of DZ Driver Training within 12 months of hire.
• Legally eligible to work in Canada with a valid SIN.
• Ability to perform physical tasks with or without accommodations.
• Successful completion of pre-employment drug and medical screening.

Program Benefits

• $28.79/hour in Ottawa.
• WM covers up to $2600 for driving courses at recognized schools.
• If leaving WM within a year after obtaining DZ license, repayment of course costs is required.

Training and Responsibilities

• Assist as an on-route helper while obtaining a Commercial Driving Permit.
• Partner with WM Drivers to learn vehicle operation and safety procedures.
• Perform vehicle inspections, report issues, and adhere to safety laws.
• Participate in training, improve route efficiency, and communicate with team members and customers.
• Complete daily documentation and follow route assignments.
