Job Description
JOB PROFILE summary:
The Driver operates and maintains a light passenger van assigned by Salvation Army (TSA) to transport passengers, materials, merchandise, or equipment within a rural area including. When not preforming driving tasks, the Driver will preform grounds maintenance.
Accountabilities
Driving:
- Drop-offs and pickups of residents ensuring their safe handling in a timely and secure manner.
- Demonstrate a pleasant manner with the public
- Pick up supplies or run any errands for the office, including carrying mail to and from the post office.
Vehicle And Equipment Maintenance
- Perform circle checks of vehicle, checking air, water, oil, and other items to ensure equipment is in good working condition.
- Maintain program vehicle log and report any problems
- Maintain complete and accurate records (mileage, fuel costs, issues encountered)
- Responsible for the security and safe operation of the vehicle and other assigned equipment
- Program vehicle must be clean with all personal items removed daily.
- Cleaning and sanitizing of supplies and equipment used
- Maintain knowledge of legislative and organization policies such as health and safety. regulations/policies, provincial and municipal highway traffic acts
Groundskeeping Duties
- Mowing lawns and trimming hedges using driving lawnmower/tractor
- Maintaining landscaping equipment
- Inspecting grounds for hazards and signs of damage
- Performing light gardening such as weeding, watering plants, etc.
- Clearing walkways and driveways of debris or snow
Essential Skills And Qualifications
- Completion of High School Diploma
Knowledge, Experience Or Training In
- Up to 1 year of safe driving experience
- Valid full Driver’s License for the province; an original copy of a current Driver’s Abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required
- Strong navigation skills
- Demonstrated safe driving practices
- Basic landscaping skills
- Seasonal maintenance
- Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility
- Good interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Professional, service-oriented approach internally and externally
- Exceptional organizational, prioritizing and time management skills
- Self-motivated and disciplined self-starter
- Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures
- Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution.
- Must comply with all Salvation Army policies, procedures, and associated legislation
Upon Hiring, Successful Candidate Must Provide

Working Conditions
- Working environment is typically in a program vehicle
- The worker is required to drive and be involved in vehicle-related activities and tasks up to 70% of the time
- The work requires frequent amount of standing, walking, bending, repetitive lifting, and the ability to lift up to 39 pounds with no assistance from others
Compensation
The target hiring range for this position is $17.20 to $20.64 with a maximum of $24.77.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
