Job summary

Dingwell's Global is seeking a Drafting Technician for our Thunder Bay, ON manufacturing facility. The successful candidate will liaise with machining and fabrication teams as well as internal and external contacts to produce drawings and designs.

Responsibilities include gathering information, creating detailed CAD drawings in SolidWorks, ensuring designs meet internal and customer requirements, and assisting in developing production methods.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Drafter/Designer in a manufacturing setting.
• SolidWorks CAD software experience.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office products.
• Excellent organizational skills with time sensitivity and attention to quality.
• Strong math skills.
• Ability to measure with tapes, calipers, micrometers, and other tools.
• Creativity and analytical thinking.
• Ability to communicate technical knowledge clearly.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment as a leader.

Job description

Dingwell's Global (Dingwell's Machinery & Supply Limited) is currently taking applications for a Drafting Technician person for our Thunder Bay, ON manufacturing facilities. A qualified candidate will be able to liaise with both our machining and fabrication sides of the business as well as all other inside and outside contacts.

Responsibilities

• Liaise with inside and outside contacts to gather information needed to create drawings and designs as required.
• Research and gather information required for materials and any other additional part process requirements needed for the job.
• Prepare rough sketches and review them with the appropriate company team members.
• Create detailed drawings and designs with computer-aided design (CAD) software.
• Ensure final drawings and designs comply with both internal and customer requirements and are to the quality standards expected.
• Assist in developing the production methods required to produce finished product.
• Identify, formulate and produce effective solutions to emerging problems.
• Help develop and maintain an effective and efficient drawing and design system.

Required Skills

• Proven work experience as a Drafter / Designer in the manufacturing field.
• Hands-on experience with Solidworks CAD software.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office products.
• Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and work in a time sensitive environment, paying attention to quality and detail of the work.
• Good math skills.
• The ability to measure using various tapes, calipers, micrometers and other measuring tools.
• Creativity and analytical skills.
• Ability to communicate technical knowledge in a clear and understandable manner.
• Technical writing skills.
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written.

Preferred Skills

• Knowledge of ERP systems.
• Understanding of Geometric Dimensions and Tolerances (GD&T).
• Prior use of 3D Laser scanning for modeling and measurement purposes.
• Ability to speak Mandarin is an asset.
