Overview
Reporting to the Foreman, the Dozer Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Dozer. They will have the ability to operate various sizes of dozers in challenging site conditions. This role plays a key part in site preparation, grading, backfilling, and maintaining safe work areas.
How You’ll Add Value
- Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment
- Use the dozer to level soil and move rock or debris
- Operate dozer controls to regulate height and angle of a dozer blade and lower ripper to loosen packed soil to permit grading
- Operate the dozer in successive passes to raise or lower terrain to the specified grade, using grade stakes, hand signals and GPS
- Conduct routine cleaning maintenance and safety checks on equipment to ensure smooth operation
- Perform pre-operational checks, including cleaning, lubricating, and refueling equipment as needed
- Understand and adhere to ground disturbance requirements
- Work in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt
- Operate additional heavy equipment as required to support project needs
Qualifications & Experience
What You Bring
- 4+ years of experience as a dozer operating in heavy civil construction
- An understanding of computerized controls and electronics (GPS) is an asset
- Physically able to safely lift and carry 40 lbs regularly
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions
- Willing to travel and work out of town for short, fixed-term periods, as needed
