Job summary

The Nature Trust of New Brunswick is seeking a Donor Development Manager to lead our fund development strategy and donor engagement. Reporting to the CEO, you will cultivate major gifts, build partnerships, and expand our donor base to support conservation across New Brunswick.

Hybrid work in Fredericton with occasional travel, data-driven fundraising, and collaboration across teams. Experience with Salesforce and bilingual English/French is preferred to advance our mission.

Qualifications

  • Able to analyze data and report fundraising trends.
  • Bilingualism English-French is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Implement the Fund Development Strategy effectively with support from the CEO and management team.
  • Engages major donors, individuals and corporations, resulting in large gift securement and sponsorships.
  • Builds productive relationships with donors in New Brunswick and beyond, proactively reaching out to build connections with individuals and organizations likely to support the organization.
  • Provides structure and momentum around donor stewardship and legacy giving initiatives.
  • Supports donor-related events and provides direction regarding outreach and storytelling for fundraising with Communications and Engagement.
  • Oversees the donor database to track and engage with donors using CRM software (Salesforce).
  • Works with the management team to implement best practices for fund development.

Salary: $50,000 - $70,000 annually (37.5 hours/week; access to health insurance, wellness benefits and professional development following 6-month probationary period)

The Nature Trust of New Brunswick (Nature Trust) is a charitable land trust based in Fredericton that is dedicated to protecting ecologically significant lands across New Brunswick, forever.

We conserve and care for a growing 14,700 acres across 100 nature preserves throughout New Brunswick, and are well ahead in our Conserve (Y)our New Brunswick campaign’s goal of raising $10 million to protect 15,000 acres by 2030. The Nature Trust works to protect our province’s natural spaces through science-based approaches, innovative engagement, and collaborative action with government, landholders, Indigenous partners, communities and others within the private sector. We are grateful for our robust base of supporters including 400+ individual donors and volunteers, and 100+ public and private sector partners.

Role Summary

The Donor Development Manager (DDM) drives the implementation of the Nature Trust’s Fund Development Strategy. The DDM, supervised by the CEO, will work closely with the management/leadership team to align all fundraising initiatives with the Nature Trust’s mission, vision and strategic plan. This role is results driven, relying on data to inform tactics and activities. This team member leads the Nature Trust’s fund development with confidence, social aptitude and brings a creative and innovative approach to the organization’s charitable goals.
The Nature Trust promotes a collaborative work environment, combining efforts across departments. The DDM, supported by the management team, will build on our trusted reputation in land conservation and stewardship, effective volunteer engagement and strong communication channels to cultivate new partnerships, diversify our donor base, and grow philanthropic funding to strengthen the Nature Trust’s impact on nature now and into the future.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Implements the organization’s Fund Development Strategy effectively with support from the CEO and management team.
  • Engages major donors, individuals and corporations, resulting in large gift securement (restricted and unrestricted status) and sponsorships.
  • Builds productive relationships with donors in New Brunswick and beyond, proactively reaching out to build connections with individuals and organizations likely to support the Nature Trust’s mission.
  • Provides structure and momentum around Nature Trust legacy giving initiatives, donor appreciation and stewardship.
  • Supports donor-related events and provides direction regarding outreach and storytelling aimed at fundraising efforts with the support of the Communications and Engagement Department.
  • Oversees the Nature Trust’s donor database to track and effectively engage with donors relying on CRM software (Salesforce).
  • Works collaboratively with the management team to implement best practices and approaches for fund development throughout the organization.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
  • Professional with proven ability to design and implement strategic fund development approaches (e.g. fundraising campaigns, engaging major donors and individuals, developing funding proposals, establishing corporate sponsorships, attracting planned givers and retaining legacy donors.)
  • Personable with excellent social and communications skills.
  • Experience establishing donor relationships, securing large donor gifts, and achieving ambitious fundraising targets.
  • Collaborative and able to work closely within a team environment to support innovative and strategic approaches to accomplish organizational goals.
  • Organized and analytical with experience maintaining data and understanding trends and successful strategies.
  • Solid grasp of fundraising tools and processes including donor databases and CRMs (Salesforce is currently used), charitable compliance and prospect research.
  • Able to make strategic decisions about where to invest human and financial resources in combination with fundraising tools and processes.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of land trusts and/or conservation practices is an asset.
