Manitoulin Transport is seeking a dock/dispatcher to support a 60% dock and 40% dispatcher workload in Prince George, BC. You will unload freight, load outbound trailers with a handheld scanner, and coordinate with linehaul drivers as needed.

Responsibilities include labeling, tracking quantities, organizing freight for trailer space, and maintaining warehouse safety. The position runs Tuesday to Saturday with a 9:00–17:30 schedule (Fri), and 6:00–14:00 on Saturdays.

Competenze

• WHMIS/dangerous goods training completed or in-house training provided.
• Forklift certification or readiness to obtain it.
• Ability to operate internal computer systems and handheld scanning devices.
• Proven problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Job Description

• This is a 60% dock work and 40% dispatcher responsibility
• Unloads freight from inbound trailers and loads outbound trailers using the handheld scanner as well as staging overflow freight for pickup by linehaul drivers at night as required
• Distributes freight to local P&D Drivers
• Marks materials with identifying information
• Records amounts of materials or items received or distributed (on handheld device)
• Counts and weighs items to ensure conformance to the shipper's bill of lading
• Starts heaters, placards trailers as required
• Arrange freight in a specified sequence for maximum usage of trailer space
• Must take an active role in the safety and maintenance of the warehouse by sweeping the floor, properly storing dunnage, etc.
• Tuesday to Saturday work schedule
• Work hours Tuesday to Friday are: start at 9 AM, finish at 17:30, or when the outbound trailer loading is completed. Saturday Start time: 6 AM until 14:00
• Computer knowledge - will be responsible for end-of-day labels and handling of drivers
• Other duties may be assigned

Qualifications

• WHIMS/Dangerous Goods Certificate/ Forklift certification ( These items are covered with in-house training programs)
• Developed problem-solving, critical thinking, decision-making and judgment skills
• Able to lift 50 lbs, sometimes repetitively
• Ability to multitask and manage various tasks successfully
• Ability to operate our internal computer systems and handheld scanning devices
• Dependable and able to work in a dock environment safely and efficiently while meeting timelines for departures
• Knowledge of the AS400 system would be an asset
• Willing to train the right applicant
• Have own personal transportation to and from work with a clean driving record
