Job summary

The Erb Group in Ottawa, Ontario is seeking a Dock Loader for the night shift. You will load trucks, verify freight against manifests, and ensure temperature control for perishable goods. This is an hourly, 40-hour week with potential overtime.

Ideal candidates have at least 2 years forklift experience, can lift up to 70 lbs, and are comfortable working in a refrigerated dock. The company offers day-one benefits and a supportive work environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of forklift experience.
• Knowledge of The Erb Group's systems and operations is an asset.
• Ability to work in a cold, refrigerated environment for up to 8 hours is necessary.
• Must be able to list up to 70lbs.
• Team player with a positive attitude.
• Positive communication skills with dock staff, operations, and drivers.

Responsibilities

• Fully understand Erb Transport’s handling of freight on the dock.
• Load straight-trucks and trailers destined for specific locations while maintaining correct temps.
• Judge freight volumes, cubing, re-weighing, and report as needed.
• Set up dock floor and line up freight for efficient locating of orders.
• Read freight bills to match actual products; ensure loads meet weights and space limits.
• Operate pallet-jack and forklift safely; report equipment repairs as needed.
• All other duties as required.

Shift: Monday - Friday; 2am - 10:30am

SUMMARY

To ensure dedicated trucks are loaded, unloaded, and processed accurately, according to weight requirements, availability of space, and variety of freight.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Fully understand Erb Transport’s handling of freight on the dock. Understand duties of both Dock Loaders and Dock Receivers.
• Load straight‑trucks as well as trailers destined for specific locations, while avoiding damages by ensuring equipment is set at correct temperatures.
• Judging freight volumes for trailers, cubing, re weighing and additional reporting as needed.
• Set up dock floor and line up freight so that orders can be found efficiently and accurately.
• Read and cross‑reference freight bills to match with actual products according to manifests. Ensure trucks are loaded according to legal weights and space allotted for the product.
• Operate pallet‑jack and forklift in a safe manner. Inform appropriate personnel of any equipment requiring repairs and/or follow‑up.
• All other duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Hourly position. Based upon 40 hours per week with the potential for overtime.
• Employees will work in a refrigerated dock and, at times, in a freezer.
