Job summary

Burnaby School District - SD41 is seeking a District Vision Learning Support Teacher to support students with visual impairments. The successful candidate will work with classroom teachers to offer an engaging learning experience and provide mentoring to colleagues.

The role requires a diploma or Master’s in education of the visually impaired and a valid B.C. Teaching Certificate. The position offers a diverse and inclusive environment.

Qualifications

  • Previous classroom teaching experience and a current valid B.C. Teaching Certificate.
  • Ability to teach literary, Nemeth, and UEB braille code.

Job description

District Vision Learning Support Teacher

Ongoing, Full-Time (1.0 FTE) & Part-Time (0.4 FTE)

Responsibilities: Work collaboratively with classroom teachers and school teams to support students with visual impairments, providing an engaging, comprehensive, and inclusive learning experience. Offer mentoring and collaboration with experienced team members.

Qualifications
  • A diploma or Master’s degree in education of the visually impaired;
  • Previous classroom teaching experience and hold or be eligible for a current valid B.C. Teaching Certificate;
  • Ability to teach literary, Nemeth and UEB braille code;
  • Expertise in provision of alternate format instructional materials and specialized equipment, together with knowledge of technology and its application for blind and visually impaired students;
  • Successful experience in administering functional vision assessments;
  • Orientation and Mobility training an asset (preference given for COMS);
  • A valid driver’s license

Annual salary range: $64,318 - $113,240.
