District requires a 1.0 PERMANENT Elementary Teacher/Counsellor for Chetwynd and Tumbler Ridge

Join to apply for the Elementary Teacher/Counsellor position at School District 59 Peace River South.

Position Details

Effective September 1, 2025, this position will be based in Chetwynd, working with the District elementary counselling team to support schools in Chetwynd and Tumbler Ridge.

The successful applicant will possess a Master's Degree in Counselling and will focus on assessing and developing interventions for students' behaviors, social/emotional well-being, and self-determination. Interventions may be delivered individually, in small groups, or in classroom settings. The candidate will participate in planning and implementing behavior plans, liaising with outside agencies as needed, and supporting students in transferring skills across environments. The role also involves providing direction and support to district intervention workers.

Members of the District Learning Services team are required to attend district meetings, participate in in-service training, and travel to other communities as needed.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Hold, or be qualified for, a valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate.
  • Experience in curriculum adaptation and modification to meet diverse student needs.
  • Experience teaching primary to secondary students.
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills, with a willingness to implement school initiatives.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of social responsibility performance standards.
  • Familiarity with the outcomes and evaluation processes of the new curriculum.
  • Experience with individualized and group instruction using effective strategies.
  • Experience teaching in multi-age settings.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Training in teaching ELL students.
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized learning plans for students with social, emotional, and academic challenges.
  • Willingness to collaborate on school improvement plans.
  • Knowledge of Criterion Based Referencing and Performance Based Assessment, and Balanced Literacy.
  • Experience working with students exhibiting a variety of behaviors.
