JOB DESCRIPTION :
The School Psychologist is a member of District Staff in a position of special responsibility, working under the direction of the Director of Instruction, Learner Support or designate. The School Psychologist will:
- Provide collaborative consultation in classrooms and at school-based team meetings;
- Plan collaboratively for students and classrooms and consult on pre-referral interventions;
- Conduct educational assessments, including the use of Level C testing instruments, for students referred through the school-based team process;
- Contribute to the development of the IEP as appropriate and necessary;
- Provide in-service training on interventions, progress monitoring, data collection, and assessment;
- Consult with the Director of Learner Support regarding Ministry of Education processes for designation and adjudication;
- Collaborate with teachers, support staff, parents, students, and community agencies (e.g., MCFD, regional health authorities, Community Living BC, Child and Youth Mental Health) to discuss student strengths, needs, assessment implications, and interventions to enhance learning and relationships;
- Work with school-based and district personnel to gather classroom data, design or implement instructional strategies and behavioral interventions;
- Assist staff in providing additional in-service training (e.g., behavior management, observational techniques, data gathering, PBS, RTI) and participate in program evaluation or research activities;
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Instruction, Learner Support, or designate.
This position is district-wide, serving schools and staff throughout the district. The work hours will be similar to secondary teachers but with a flexible schedule based on mutual agreement. An allowance will be provided per Article B.27 (Allowances). The position adheres to the BCTF Code of Ethics.

Knowledge and Experience
- Understanding of Ministry of Education curriculum and competencies.
- Knowledge of educational implications of assessment processes and support strategies based on student strengths and needs.
- Experience in elementary and secondary schools.
- Current knowledge of Ministry of Education, and Special Education policies and procedures.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with various stakeholders.
- Skills in data review, instructional design, and behavioral interventions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Organizational and time management skills for assessments and reports.
- Adherence to professional standards and ethics such as the BCTF Code of Ethics and related standards.
Qualifications
- Professional teaching certificate recognized by the BC Ministry of Education.
- Master’s Degree in school/educational psychology.
- Experience as a classroom and/or resource teacher.
- Eligibility for registration with the BC College of Psychologists or membership in the BC Association of School Psychologists.
- Valid BC Driver’s License for travel to schools.
