Waste Connections of Canada is seeking a District Accountant to support Brantford district operations from the Hamilton office. You will handle month-end close, reporting, budgeting and interdepartmental coordination with operations, sales, dispatch and maintenance.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of accounting experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Business or Accounting preferred
• Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
• Highly organized with attention to detail
• Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities
• Intermediate to advanced MS Excel and accounting systems proficiency
• Must be able to pass all pre-employment requirements

Responsibilities

• Coordinate month-end district close process including billing and journal entries
• Prepare monthly operational and financial reports for month end and forecast analysis
• Assist Controller in annual budget preparations
• Review and approve items in TRUX system (cash and A/R entries)
• Perform cash reconciliations for various payment types
• Prepare district reporting packages and balance sheet reconciliations
• Coordinate AP/AR and cross-departmental admin processes for full-cycle accounting
• Reconcile accounts payable/receivable balances as needed
• Assist in greenhouse gas emissions reporting
• Assist in containers and rolling stock inventory audits
• Act as backup for cash entry and accounts payable
• Participate in internal control and reporting process improvements
• Travel to Brantford district weekly
