Job summary

Primary Engineering and Construction Corporation in Victoria is seeking a Distribution Design Co-op Student to start January 2027 for an eight‑month term. The role involves design and AutoCAD drafting of 4kV–25kV distribution infrastructure and assisting with material takeoffs and project estimating.

Responsibilities include transformer loading calculations, coordinating with civil and electrical teams, creating VBA automation macros, preparing technical docs, site visits, and project

Qualifications

  • Completed at least one year of an engineering program at an accredited university or college (electrical or civil preferred, but others will be considered).
  • Strong collaborative skills and willingness to liaise with project managers, designers, drafters, vendors, survey, and marketing to ensure on-time, on-budget projects.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office 365.
  • Experience working in the civil or electric utility industry.
  • Familiarity with BC Hydro design and construction standards would be an asset.

  • Research and application of engineering standards and codes.
  • Design coordination with customers, municipal authorities, other utilities & project stakeholders.
  • Assess potential system impacts and costs relating to electrical and telecom servicing.

Job description

We are seeking a Distribution Design Co-op Student to join our Victoria office starting in January 2027. An 8-month term is preferred; however, candidates available for a 4-month term will also be considered.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and AutoCAD drafting of underground and overhead medium voltage electrical distribution infrastructure (4kV - 25kV).

  • Reviewing 3rd party drawings such as civil, architectural, landscape, and on-site electrical to coordinate and eliminate design conflicts.
  • Creating and updating automation macros using VBA programming.
  • Preparing technical documentation.
  • Site visits to inspect civil and electrical power infrastructure.
  • Project schedule management and tracking.
  • Research and application of engineering standards and codes.
  • Design coordination with customers, municipal authorities, other utilities & various project stakeholders.
  • Assess the potential system impacts and costs relating to electrical and telecom utility servicing
  • Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • Successful completion of at least one year of an engineering program at an accredited university or college (electrical or civil preferred, but others will be considered).
  • Strong collaborative skills and willingness to liaise with other roles (project managers, designers, drafters, materials and construction vendors, survey, and marketing) to ensure projects are accurate, compliant, on time, and on budget.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office 365.
  • Experience working in the civil or electric utility industry.
  • Familiarity with BC Hydro design and construction standards would be an asset.

Salary Range: $23.00 - $27.00 per hour
