We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Director - Tax to lead our corporate tax compliance, reporting, and planning activities. This is an exciting opportunity for a tax professional who enjoys balancing technical expertise with strategic business partnership. As a key member of the Finance team, you will oversee the Company's tax strategy, compliance obligations, and planning initiatives to optimize tax efficiency while ensuring adherence to Canadian tax regulations. Working closely with internal stakeholders and external advisors, you will provide valuable insights that support business decisions and contribute to the organization's long-term success.
What You'll Do
Tax Compliance & Regulatory Reporting
- Preparing and reviewing tax workbooks supporting corporate tax return preparation
- Reviewing final tax filings and reconciling returns to supporting tax schedules
- Managing tax calculations, including 20(1)(e) interest expense deductions, fixed asset reconciliations, and T1134 filings
- Responding to Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) inquiries, audits, and information requests
- Preparing and reviewing surplus and adjusted cost base (ACB) calculations for real estate assets and holding entities
- Overseeing indirect tax compliance, including GST/HST reporting and remittances
Tax Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Preparing and reviewing tax provisions and supporting workbooks
- Completing book-to-tax reconciliations
Tax Planning, Forecasting & Business Advisory
- Forecasting tax-related cash flows
- Advising on the tax implications of business transactions, acquisitions, restructurings, and strategic initiatives
- Identifying opportunities to improve tax efficiency while managing risk
Strategic Tax Initiatives
- Collaborating with external tax advisors and legal counsel
- Partnering with internal Finance, Accounting, and Legal teams
- Monitoring legislative and regulatory developments and assessing business impacts
What You'll Bring
- CPA designation
- Completion of the CPA In-Depth Tax Program
- 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in corporate tax compliance, reporting, and planning
- Strong knowledge of Canadian corporate tax legislation, regulations, and reporting requirements
- U.S. tax experience is considered an asset
- Experience within the real estate industry is preferred
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and technical tax skills
- Strong communication and presentation abilities, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent project management and organizational skills
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
