Job description

Reporting to the Executive Director, Student Success, the Director, Student Advising & Learning Supports provides strategic leadership across multiple service areas supporting students' academic pathways. This includes academic advising, accessible learning supports, testing services, and service navigation supports (both in-person and virtual Service Hubs). The Director oversees service area managers, ensuring service excellence, program development, evaluation, and compliance—particularly for academic accommodation services like accommodated testing and holistic advising.

The Director champions equity-informed principles in all programs and services, addressing the diverse needs of our student population and reflecting their lived experiences. As a key member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team, the Director works to create a seamless, coordinated student support and advising model that embeds accessibility, equity, and inclusion throughout.

What You’ll Be Doing
  1. Providing senior leadership to Accessible Learning Services, Testing Services, and Advisement Services, ensuring service delivery excellence, program development, and compliance;
  2. Leading strategic planning and implementation of accessible learning and academic accommodation services;
  3. Managing program evaluation and continuous quality improvement aligned with Student Affairs' strategic goals;
  4. Overseeing financial and human resources, including recruitment, onboarding, training, and development of managers;
  5. Embedding performance management, coaching, and employee relations best practices;
  6. Developing and reviewing budgets, monitoring variances, and managing grant funding;
  7. Providing leadership on pan-institutional strategic initiatives related to academic advising and support for students with disabilities;
  8. Informing senior leadership about emerging trends and student needs to influence organizational decisions;
  9. Representing Student Affairs and advocating for equity, diversity, and inclusion across all service areas;
  10. Promoting a coordinated, stepped care student support model;
  11. Performing other related duties as required.
About You

You are committed to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion, valuing the diverse identities within our community and fostering a sense of belonging. You possess knowledge of systemic barriers faced by equity-deserving groups and are an advocate for marginalized students, capable of leading and inspiring change.

You are a self-directed leader with collaborative skills, adept at building relationships, motivating staff, and creating a positive organizational culture. You exercise sound judgment, discretion, and confidentiality, and can handle stressful situations, conflicts, and complex student cases with a holistic, supportive approach.

You have knowledge of human behavior to inform assessment and accommodation processes, and are skilled in data analysis for evidence-based decision-making.

The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in education, counselling, social work, social sciences, psychology, or related field; PhD preferred.
  • 5-7 years of leadership experience in education or service roles, preferably in a post-secondary environment (considering equivalency).
  • Lived experience as a member of an equity-deserving group and experience addressing systemic accessibility and equity issues.
  • Understanding of the post-secondary student lifecycle and Student Development Theory.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations (e.g., The Code, AODA, OHSA).
  • Experience leading professional staff in a unionized environment.
  • Experience with strategic planning, operational management, budgeting, and funding proposals.
  • Training in AODA, The Ontario Human Rights Code, and BFA requirements is an asset.
