The Role

This role is responsible for setting the strategy for Creditor Insurance, Home Warranty and other ancillary products for MCAP. This position is responsible to achieve the revenue and P&L goals while ensuring all regulatory and internal performance standards are met by the Executive team for the mortgage business and ancillary products. This position develops and implements the business plan set out and maximizes resources allocated to achieve the objectives.

Product Management for Non-Mortgage Products
  • Provide direction and guidance to the Product Analysts with a thorough understanding of Creditor Insurance products, Mortgage Life, Disability and Critical Illness products existing throughout the financial services and insurance industry. This includes their structure, the associated contracts, the profitability to and tax implications for MCAP / Subservicing Lenders.
  • Provide direction and guidance to the Product Analysts with a thorough understanding of Home Warranty programs. This includes their structure, the associated contracts, the profitability to and tax implications for MCAP / Subservicing Lenders.
  • Provide direction and guidance to the Product Analysts with a thorough understanding of Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance programs. This includes their structure, the associated contracts, the profitability to and tax implications for MCAP / subservice Lenders.
  • Develop strong strategic relationships with external partners, including insurers, reinsurers, industry and legal experts on Creditor Insurance, Warranty and P&C insurance products and services.
  • Provide direction and guidance to the Sales Support Manager, Ancillary Products to achieve the expected results for the Home Warranty and Property Tax programs. This includes the achievement of monthly new business targets and retention rates.
  • Oversee the development of advanced insurance and financial models for Senior Executive review and analysis.
  • Be the subject matter expert in the Creditor Insurance business in terms of product management, financial structure, legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of the external market and customer base for the various mortgage and non-mortgage products.
  • Oversee the forecasting and monitoring performance to ensure sales and revenue objectives are on plan and meet targets.
  • Review and approve recommendations on tactics to help achieve business plan objectives (seeking final approval where required).
  • Oversee cross-functional implementation of new non-mortgage products.
  • Oversee the education and training of business units on new product details, processes, etc.
  • Lead and negotiate financially advantageous arrangements for MCAP both at commencement and renewal of contracts with insurer and warranty carriers.
Development and Design of New/Existing Products and Strategic Initiatives
  • Based on industry and in-depth insurance product knowledge proactively develop strategies and programs for new and existing products to improve growth and revenue.
  • Identify, evaluate and lead research and analysis such that an idea/concept/strategic initiative can be scoped out.
  • Ensure products are competitively positioned, profitability maximized, and existing and future customer needs are met.
  • Influence and collaborate with Senior Management and business units to gather support for execution and implementation of new products, programs and initiatives.
  • Assist in building strategic alliances with external partners (such as Canada Life and Assurant) and negotiating contractual agreements for product collaboration (with Legal Counsel and Actuarial consultants).
  • Perform ongoing evaluation of product performance relative to expectations, e.g. ROI; competitive product features and rates; and viable multiple distribution channels.
  • Design, develop and implement financial models to project cash flow and earnings over a particular project’s investment horizon.
  • Collaborate with finance to verify accuracy of information and ensure proper accounting treatment has been utilized.
  • Ensure effective reporting standards and analysis is in place to provide direction on the business to the Executive(s).
New Initiatives
  • Identify new business and product opportunities in the Canadian mortgage and non-mortgage areas.
  • Identify and launch new products and services in the non-mortgage area (insurance, warranty and other complimentary products).
  • Identify potential strategic alliances and acquisition opportunities in the mortgage and insurance sectors.
Business Plan Objectives, Planning, Resources, and Budgeting
  • Lead the planning and budgeting process.
  • Responsible to achieve revenue targets, new production targets and profitability goals as set out in business plans / annual targets for both Creditor Insurance & Home Warranty products.
  • Maintain expenses to targets.
  • Ensure proper quality controls and data integrity.
Market Research / Analysis
  • Keep abreast with products/services being offered in the marketplace (both nationally & globally), such that the business unit can identify gaps or opportunities to expand upon MCAP’s existing product line-up.
  • Analyze the information obtained above to see if it fits in within our Single Family Product Strategy, and if so, to determine how we should proceed.
Lead and Manage Staff
  • Champion the company’s Vision, Mission and Values as set out in the Strategic Plan both internally and externally within the industry.
  • Recruit and develop the right people that believe and reflect behaviors of MCAP’s Values and culture.
  • Establish, monitor and communicate performance standards to direct reports reinforcing individual results, work quality, continuous improvement, teamwork and achievement of MCAP’s objectives.
  • Educate, coach and counsel staff to ensure they are empowered to effectively handle their roles in a confident and professional manner.
  • Establish and maintain an effective system of communication throughout the business unit.
  • Ensure a continuous improvement culture is established and encouraged.

What You Bring To The Team

  • Minimum 7 to 10 years’ experience in the Mortgage & Insurance Sectors.
  • Strong leadership skills to manage product development teams.
  • Mortgage and/or consumer product knowledge.
  • Strong entrepreneurial skills.
  • Insurance and Warranty product knowledge.
  • Strong understanding of financial fundamentals to develop business models, prepare and analyze income statements.
  • Skilled at inspiring and bargaining/negotiating with others.
  • Resourceful, innovative and creative problem solver.
  • Possesses a high degree of knowledge about the mortgage brokerage industry and mortgage lending.
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain strong relationships with senior-level external customers, prospects and industry contacts.
  • Ability to think and plan strategically and execute plans tactically.
  • Strong selling and business development skills.
  • Strong analytical skills including ability to analyze data and create management reporting (using MS Excel).
  • Ability to work effectively and successfully achieve results across a diverse range of projects, initiatives and areas of responsibility.
  • Ability to work with, collaborate and influence internal stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient with Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint.
