The University of Toronto is seeking an innovative and forward-thinking leader for the role of Director, Property Management, Fire Prevention & Elevator Services. The Director will join the institution at an exciting time as Facilities and Services embarks on a transformative 2030 Strategic Plan that will bolster its mandate to preserve, enhance and future-proof U of T’s campus and foster an environment that nurtures learning and discovery.

The Facilities and Services division at the University of Toronto maintains buildings, grounds and facilities on the St. George campus and supports day-to-day operations and utilities to enable the pioneering research, provide the vibrant community spaces and attract – and retain – the world-class talent that makes U of T a global academic leader. Committed to fostering a culture of continuous improvement and deeply involved in U of T’s sustainability strategy and efforts, Facilities and Services updates utility infrastructure and building efficiency to support the St. George campus’s goal of reducing absolute emissions and becoming climate positive by 2050 . Over the next three years, the U of T is investing $300 million in the Revitalizing Infrastructure, Strengthening Education (RISE) Program that will support up to 300 projects aimed at improving climate resiliency and energy efficiency, and preventing infrastructure failures.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, Property Services & Sustainability and leading a dynamic team, the Director will be responsible for stewardship in facilities management and operations, and overseeing renovation projects and client services that ensures safety and maintains standards and the efficient operation of 130 buildings spanning approximately 14 million sq. ft. They will lead the development and implementation of multi-year strategic plans for the Property Management Group, and ensure that maintenance operations, renovations, project designs and procurement of services are performed to industry and University standards with an emphasis on sustainability.

With a university degree in a related technical discipline and sound knowledge of all applicable building codes,the ideal candidate possesses progressive leadership experience in property and facilities management, and aproven record of managing large teams in a complex, unionized environment. The Director will be energized bythe opportunity to lead a high volume of capital projects, drive operational efficiency and enhance customerservice at a world-class institution, and must demonstrate expertise in managing large budgets, fosteringinnovation, problem-solving and introducing system improvements. They will possess outstandinginterpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, a successful record of motivating and empoweringeffective teams, and an ability to cultivate respectful and collegial relationships across the U of T communityand with external stakeholders.
