Job summary

SE Health in Canada is seeking a Director, Payroll Operations and Transformation to lead strategic payroll direction across a complex, multi-jurisdictional org. You will drive modernization, automation, governance, and data-driven improvements while shaping enterprise-wide change initiatives.

This six-month contract role focuses on delivering accurate, compliant payroll, strengthening controls, and partnering with Finance, HR, Legal, and IT to enable scalable growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Payroll, HR, Business, or related field.
  • 8+ years of progressive leadership experience in payroll operations, payroll transformation, or related functions.
  • Demonstrated success leading large-scale payroll modernization, systems implementation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience overseeing complex, multi-jurisdictional payroll environments.
  • Strong background in compliance, controls, governance, audits, and risk management.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to Markham Home Office: 90 Allstate Parkway on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for payroll operations across multiple business lines, employee groups, and jurisdictions.
  • Ensure payroll is processed accurately, efficiently, compliantly, and on time.
  • Establish and maintain governance frameworks, service standards, policies, controls, and performance metrics.
  • Promote operational excellence through data-driven decision-making, process discipline, and continuous monitoring.
  • Lead audit readiness activities and partner with Finance, HR, Legal, Internal Audit, and external stakeholders to ensure compliance and risk mitigation.
  • Develop and execute a payroll and time-tracking transformation roadmap that supports organizational growth.
  • Lead modernization initiatives focused on automation, process simplification, governance, and employee experience improvements.
  • Champion continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to streamline processes, eliminate inefficiencies, and enhance service delivery.
  • Explore and implement responsible AI-enabled solutions that improve payroll accuracy, risk detection, reporting, forecasting, and employee support.
  • Lead payroll integration activities related to mergers, acquisitions, organizational restructuring, and enterprise change initiatives.

This role is a 6 months contract with possibility of extension.

What You'll Do
Lead Payroll Operations Excellence
  • Provide strategic leadership for payroll operations across multiple business lines, employee groups, and jurisdictions.
  • Ensure payroll is processed accurately, efficiently, compliantly, and on time.

Drive Payroll Transformation and Modernization
  • Develop and execute a payroll and time-tracking transformation roadmap that supports organizational growth and evolving workforce needs.
  • Lead modernization initiatives focused on automation, process simplification, governance, and employee experience improvements.
  • Champion continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to streamline processes, eliminate inefficiencies, and enhance service delivery.
  • Explore and implement responsible AI-enabled solutions that improve payroll accuracy, risk detection, reporting, forecasting, and employee support.
  • Lead payroll integration activities related to mergers, acquisitions, organizational restructuring, and enterprise change initiatives.
Lead and Develop High-Performing Teams
  • Inspire, mentor, and develop a team of payroll leaders and professionals.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Establish clear priorities, service expectations, and development opportunities.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to leaders across Finance, Human Resources, Operations, Digital, and Executive Leadership.
Serve as Finance Product Owner within Enterprise Transformation Initiatives
  • Represent Finance within major enterprise transformation programs and digital initiatives.
  • Partner with clinical, operational, and technology leaders to ensure business requirements, controls, and reporting needs are incorporated into solution design and delivery.
  • Support change management, stakeholder engagement, testing, implementation readiness, and successful adoption of new systems and processes.
