Position: Director, Operations - BWXT Precision Manufacturing Inc.

BWXT PMI specializes in providing critical nuclear components such as Fuel Channel End Fittings, Liners, Feeders, and Shield Plugs. We offer opportunities in Machining, Metal Fabrication, Quality Control, Project Management, and Engineering. For more information, see our website.

Our Role

Reporting to the Vice President of Fuel Handling and Engineered Solutions, the Director of Operations oversees approximately 130 employees. The role involves maximizing profits through investment in people, materials, and equipment while ensuring safety, schedule, and quality commitments are met.

Accountabilities
  • Promote a safety culture prioritizing safety above all.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Achieve revenue targets.
  • Drive continuous improvement using lean manufacturing tools.
  • Develop relationships with customers and vendors.
  • Meet customer schedule and delivery commitments.
  • Plan manufacturing efforts including process, plant, equipment, and capacity.
  • Support department managers in daily activities.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, leadership, and skills development.
  • Evaluate employee performance and provide coaching.
  • Improve reporting metrics and KPIs.
  • Manage project execution and control costs.
  • Review production methods and costs for improvements.
  • Maintain budgets and participate in quarterly reviews.
  • Ensure efficient onboarding and training processes.
  • Implement new manufacturing techniques for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure effective labor planning and support employee relations.
  • Communicate and embody company values.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field; broad business background preferred.
  • 10+ years in precision manufacturing or OEM environment; CNC background an asset.
  • Experience with nuclear power products or high-quality industries like aerospace or medical.
  • Strong knowledge of quality and safety programs.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles.
  • Excellent planning, leadership, and coaching skills.
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to lead cultural change and organizational effectiveness.
