What you’ll be doing

The Director, will be responsible for 2nd line of defense operational risk and resilience activities to oversee and effectively challenge CIBC’s operational risk and resilience activities, with focus on third party risk management, business continuity and challenge of CIBC’s operational resilience program. This role is critical in ensuring that CIBC understands its critical operations, functions and supplier arrangements, and that risks to CIBC and its third parties being operational resilient are identified, assessed and managed. In carrying out this mandate, this role will provide leadership, oversight and effective challenge in risk management processes, tools and programs, including internal control reviews to assess operational effectiveness, deficiency management, and risk monitoring. The Director works in close partnership with business unit management, control groups and peers in Risk Management to ensure a consistent and collaborative approach of delivery and information.

How you’ll succeed

  • Operational risk oversight and support - Lead and support operational risk tools and programs (eg. RAS/KRI, CIRA, RCSA, Operational Incident Report, Risk Reviews, Control and Deficiency Management, Objective Assessment, etc…) where Director mandate has coverage, including providing portfolio management support. This includes leadership regarding the design and implementation of operational risk tools and programs for critical operations, and support for third party and business continuity controls and issues management.

  • Operational resilience oversight and support – Lead and support the design of critical operations oversight at CIBC, including providing effective challenge of life cycle components (eg. process maps, tolerance for disruption statements, scenario tests, etc…).

  • Collaboration, relationship building and effective challenge - Establish strong working relationships across all business units, control groups, and regional partners, with a goal to develop heightened awareness and provide effective challenge regarding operational resilience, third party risk management and business continuity risk management across the bank.

  • Risk governance and regulatory compliance – Work closely with GORM peers and key stakeholders to ensure relevant frameworks, policies, standards and user guides are operationalized, monitored for compliance and effectively challenged, and adhere to regulatory requirements.

  • Metrics and reporting – Lead and support reports for delivery to the Board, Senior Management, governance committees on operational risk and resilience matters related to third party, business continuity, or our critical operations. Highlight risk level, outlook, issues and mitigation strategies/plan; support the development of key risk and performance metrics to monitor resilience risk.

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate experience in advanced knowledge of processes within the Operational Resilience, Third Party Risk Management, Business Continuity Management domains and strong knowledge in other activities that support operational resilience including Technology, Cyber and Data.

  • You’re a certified professional. Advanced degree in Business or related field or equivalent professional experience with a minimum of 5 years industry-related experience.
