Job summary

Neshama Hospice seeks a Director of Operations to build and scale the systems that enable exceptional end-of-life care. You will partner across disciplines, translate strategy into practical processes, and ensure facilities, finances, and people operate seamlessly so care teams can focus on residents and families.

You will lead budgeting, reporting, compliance, payroll, HRIS, scheduling, and risk management while collaborating with executive leadership to optimize operations and vendor strategy.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive operational leadership in non-profit healthcare or similar.
• Proven track record building cross-functional operational processes.
• Strong leadership presence, engagement, and collaboration.
• Experience with non-profit accounting, health-sector reporting, and risk management.

Responsibilities

• Lead budgeting, forecasting, monthly reporting, audits, and regulatory compliance.

At Neshama Hospice, we are building a first-of-its-kind 12-bed hospice residence built on Jewish values and open to all. As a small, deeply connected interdisciplinary team committed to excellent, human-centred care, we work as one team; clinicians, care professionals, and operational leaders listening closely, learning from one another, and creating a welcoming end-of-life home together. We are seeking a dynamic, strategic Director of Operations to build, scale, and lead the operational systems that will enable Neshama Hospice to deliver exceptional and holistic, end-of-life care.

As a core member of our collaborative and innovative leadership team, you will help shape not only how Neshama operates, but how we work together. You will partner closely across disciplines, turn ideas into practical systems, and create the conditions for people to do their best work. By connecting strategy with hands‑on organizational leadership, you will help the team learn, innovate, and set new standards together. You will ensure our facilities, finances, systems, and people operate seamlessly so our care teams can focus on what matters most.

What You’ll Own

• Finance and Compliance: Lead budgeting, forecasting, monthly reporting, audits, and compliance with Ministry of Health, Ontario Health, CRA, and funder requirements.
• People Operations: Oversee payroll, benefits administration, HRIS management, workforce scheduling, and employment compliance.
• Facilities, IT, and Infrastructure: Manage day‑to‑day building operations, vendor contracts, cybersecurity, emergency preparedness, and technology systems.
• Procurement and Risk Management: Lead strategic purchasing, contract negotiations, insurance, business continuity planning, and risk mitigation.
• Senior Leadership and On-Call Support: Contribute to the senior leadership team and participate in the leadership on‑call rotation supporting 24/7 hospice operations.

• Experienced Non-Profit Leader: You bring 7+ years of progressive operational leadership, ideally in healthcare, community care, or another complex non-profit environment.
• Collaborative Systems Builder: You have a proven record of bringing people together to design, implement, and continuously improve cross‑functional operational processes. You balance clear standards with openness to new ideas, building systems that teams understand, trust, and strengthen together.
• Present and Engaged Leader: You lead through trust, curiosity, and genuine connection. You thrive in an active, on‑site environment where you listen closely, invite ideas, make thoughtful decisions with others, and strengthen both staff culture and day‑to‑day care operations.
• Financially and Risk Savvy: You bring deep experience in non-profit accounting, health‑sector reporting standards, and operational risk management.

• Competitive compensation: The expected salary range is $119,800 to $148,000. Initial placement will reflect the successful candidate’s experience and skills, with room to progress as impact and tenure grow. The final offer will vary based on the candidate’s profile.
