Teraflex: Director of Operations Job Description

Teraflex is on a mission to become Ottawa’s top-performing civil and electrical contractor — and we are gaining serious momentum. With strong backing from our owners, industry leaders OEC and Envari Construction Holdings, we have laid the foundation for rapid growth. Now, we are looking for a strong Director of Operations to lead the next phase: scaling execution, building great teams, and ensuring our job sites are safe, professional, and profitable.

This is a pivotal leadership role. You will own the performance of our operations team and field crews — and help shape the systems and culture that drive us. If you are a results-driven leader who can zoom between site logistics and boardroom strategy, we want to meet you.

What You’ll Own

  1. Financial & Project Performance
  2. Strategic Execution
  3. Customer Experience & Business Development

What You Bring

You’re a Fit If You...

  • Operational Leadership: Lead day-to-day execution across multiple construction sites (civil and electrical) with precision and accountability.
  • Ensure safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of work, aligning field execution with contract, budget, and client expectations.
  • Promote a safety-first mindset with zero-injury goals, in partnership with our HS&E team.
  • Team & Culture: Manage and mentor a growing team of supervisors, forepersons, and project managers.
  • Develop high-performance expectations while supporting training, career development, and employee engagement — union and non-union.
  • Foster a culture of professionalism, responsiveness, and pride in workmanship.
  • Own operational budgets and cost management strategies.
  • Support estimating and project bidding with insight into cost drivers, risk factors, and resource allocation.
  • Deliver projects with predictable financial outcomes and strong margins.
  • Translate Teraflex’s strategic goals into operational plans, KPIs, and resource strategies.
  • Partner with the GM on organizational planning, technology adoption, and long-term workforce planning.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives to scale operations as we grow.
  • Build trust with key clients and contractors through consistent communication and service delivery.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen client relationships or expand service offerings.
  • Ensure field teams represent the Teraflex brand with professionalism and accountability.
  • 7+ years of progressive leadership experience in construction, utilities, field services, or heavy civil industries.
  • 3–5 years in a Director or senior operational leadership role with P&L responsibility.
  • Proven ability to lead unionized and non-union teams in dynamic, project-driven environments.
  • Experience scaling operations, developing people, and improving business systems.
  • Financial acumen in budgeting, forecasting, estimating, and managing risk.
  • Strategic mindset with the agility to act fast and the discipline to follow through.

Thrive on challenge and are excited to help a company scale. Balance strategic vision with hands-on operational execution. Bring out the best in your people and know how to hold a high bar. Are obsessed with delivering for customers and doing things right the first time. Make decisions using data, field insight, and common sense. Communicate clearly and credibly — whether in the field or at the exec table.

Why Join Teraflex?

  • Growth at Your Fingertips: Be part of a company that’s tripling its size and impact — and take ownership of how we get there.
  • Leadership That Backs You: Report directly to the GM and work closely with a hands-on executive team at OEC.
  • Meaningful Work: You’ll help build the infrastructure that powers communities across Ottawa and beyond.
  • Strong Foundation, Ambitious Future: We just need the right leader in the driver’s seat.

Requirements

  • Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Satisfactory background check.
  • Experience in Health & Safety systems, union relationships, and client-facing project delivery is strongly preferred.
