Role Responsibilities
Reporting to the Executive Director, Motor Vehicle Modernization with the Traffic Safety Services Division (TSS) of Transportation and Economic Corridors (TEC), the Director role exists to lead transformational initiatives that improve services to Albertans.
Responsibilities
- Establish and sustain a long-term enterprise data strategy that positions data as a critical asset.
- Design and lead a robust data governance ecosystem by creating policies, standards, and collaborative mechanisms including inventories, data dictionaries, and metadata systems that ensure ethical, secure, and high-quality data use throughout the organization.
- Lead business modernization and IMT projects through analysis of leading-edge practices in Traffic Safety programming and service delivery to inform design, technical requirements, and implementation.
- Leading the development or refinement of strategies to address the need for evidence-informed operational and strategic decisions.
- Lead the team through effective articulation of initiative goals, focusing on development, support, and coaching.
Qualifications
Required:
- University degree in Information Science, Library Sciences, Computer Science, Data Management or related, PLUS 7 years related experience or equivalent as described.
Equivalency:
- Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience, or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
For Example:
- Related 1 year certificate PLUS a minimum 10 years of experience.
- Related 2-year diploma PLUS a minimum 9 years of experience.
- Related minimum 11 years of experience.
The successful candidate MUST also have:
- Strong experience in metadata management, knowledge of data standards, data cataloguing, tagging, lineage, data quality and delivering data products within a data governance framework.
- Consultation, interpersonal, and facilitation skills to consult, negotiate, and resolve conflict with senior representatives and stakeholders having often widely varying perspectives, expectations, requirements, and priorities.
- Leadership and influencing skills to promote innovation, build consensus, motivate others to accept and adopt innovative concepts and approaches, and lead teams.
- Exceptional business acumen, and ability to liaise with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Superior organizational skills in planning, project management and task coordination.
- Interpersonal and negotiation skills and diplomacy to support senior Traffic Safety Services Division and Ministry representatives and advance their decisions and priorities for Traffic Safety Services.
- Relationship management skills to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships within the Division, across the Ministry, and with stakeholders.
- Critical, analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, including ability to analyze complex issues and information, determine risks, identify options, and make decisions in alignment with strategic and business plan goals.
- Demonstrated skills to simultaneously lead multiple complex projects in ambiguous situations, with multiple interruption and conflicting deadlines.
- Organizational change and transition management skills and leads effectively within a complex organization and continually changing business environment.
- Experience leading succession planning initiatives, demonstrate commitment to leadership development, continuous improvement, innovation and building capacity.
Assets
- Project Management experience is an asset, including leading projects using recognized project management methodologies. Professional training and certification in change management is also an asset.
