Today, GDI operates nearly 300 stores across Canada and the United States, as well as shoppable brand experiences at Garageclothing.com and Dynamiteclothing.com.

Job Summary

The Director of Maintenance and Facilities leads the company's maintenance and facilities function, overseeing operations across all sites—including new international locations—from planning through completion. This role partners closely with Store Development, Leasing, Finance, and Procurement, and is responsible for setting maintenance strategies, managing budgets, ensuring regulatory compliance, and building a strong, engaged Maintenance and Facilities team.

Key responsibilities
  • Oversee maintenance and facilities projects across all locations, including new international sites, from planning through completion;
  • Set project timelines, budgets, and resource plans, adjusting as needed to hit milestones;
  • Resolve issues quickly to limit delays and cost overruns, arranging internal or third-party support for new or remote sites as needed;
  • Lead, mentor, and manage the Maintenance and Facilities team, including a direct-report manager, Head Office technicians, and store maintenance technicians;
  • Set performance goals and conduct regular reviews;
  • Foster a collaborative team culture that supports growth;
  • Manage maintenance and facilities budgets within approved financial parameters;
  • Track spend and identify cost-saving opportunities;
  • Approve and manage vendor and supplier contracts;
  • Ensure work meets company and industry quality standards;
  • Conduct site inspections and audits, addressing non-conformance promptly;
  • Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal regulations, including obtaining permits;
  • Serve as the main point of contact for internal teams (Store Development, Construction, Leasing, Finance, Procurement) and external partners;
  • Keep senior management updated on status, risks, and opportunities;
  • Shape maintenance and facilities strategy to support company growth and global expansion;
  • Drive process improvement and the adoption of new tools and methodologies.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; field of study is flexible (an engineering degree is not required);
  • Significant experience managing maintenance/facilities operations across multiple sites or locations; a retail background is not required—experience in other multi-site industries (e.g., healthcare) is welcome;
  • Strong leadership and team management skills;
  • Solid understanding of maintenance/facilities processes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements;
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills;
  • Comfortable supporting global expansion, including coordinating internal or temporary third-party support for new international sites;
  • Professional certifications (PMP, LEED), an asset.

At GDI, you will be part of a growing organization that understands the importance of investing in people and offers you:
