Job description

Hicks Morley is Canada’s premier labour and employment law firm that exclusively represents management in all aspects of human resources law and advocacy. Established in 1972, it has expanded to more than 120 lawyers in five offices across Ontario. It has been able to achieve this status while maintaining a unique and close‑knit working environment. In all of its offices it enjoys the same culture and provides the same level of service to its clients, earning the reputation for achieving successful results through hard work, skill and integrity. Evidencing the success of this approach, it has recently been named “Boutique Law Firm of the Year” excellence awardee in the 2025 Canadian Law Awards.

Hicks is now seeking a lawyer to lead and oversee its Knowledge Management department. This individual will play a critical role as part of the Senior Management Team, strategizing with partners, taking an ownership role with the precedent system, and ensuring the lawyers remain current with changes in the law, through articles, presentations and CPD sessions. As you will be interacting and strategizing with lawyers at all levels, including senior partners, you should be a thought leader in the Labour and Employment area with the ability to identify and anticipate trends. You will have two reports, a junior KM lawyer and Library Technician, who will assist with carrying out the KM responsibilities. This hybrid role (3 days / week in the office), is located in the Toronto office and will report to the Executive Committee.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 7 years’ Labour and Employment expertise gained from a major law firm or corporation. Excellent research, organizational and writing skills with the ability to write articles, case summaries and draft agreements will be needed to succeed in this role. Strong time management skills, with the ability to juggle competing demands will be of value. Leadership and mentoring skills will also be required to ensure effective management of your team.

This is a unique opportunity to remain in a law firm while using your Labour and Employment knowledge in a slightly different way. It will appeal to a lawyer who has an academic approach to law and a genuine interest in this area of law and continuing to learn. Hicks’ culture promotes respect and collaboration within an environment that is constantly striving to remain a leader in the market.
