Job summary

Geologic, based in Calgary, is seeking a Director of Information Technology to own the corporate technology estate across on‑prem and cloud environments. You will lead a small senior team, set security and resilience directions, and manage budgets and vendor relationships for a data‑driven business.

The role is hands‑on in strategy, delivery, and operations, spanning Microsoft 365, Azure, and cross‑continent facilities. Exceptional communication with the CTO and executives is essential.

The Role

The Director, Information Technology owns Geologic's corporate technology estate: infrastructure, networks, security, end-user computing, and the vendor and licensing portfolio (a multi-million-dollar annual operating budget across a mixed on-premise and cloud environment). Reporting to the CTO and leading a small, senior team, you keep core services secure, resilient, and reliable while driving cost discipline and a clear modernisation agenda. You set the security and resilience direction, own the IT budget and vendor relationships, and make sure the day-to-day environment simply works for a busy, data-driven business. It is a hands-on leadership role: equal parts strategy, delivery, and operational reliability, and a genuine partnership with the teams building our products. You will inherit a small, capable team and an environment that spans a Calgary data-centre and colocation footprint, Microsoft 365 and Azure, and offices and offshore facilities across three continents.

What you'll own

• Infrastructure and operations. The data-centre and colocation footprint, virtualisation, storage, and backup and recovery, alongside network architecture, connectivity, and telephony. You keep core services reliable, scalable, and within budget, and drive continuous operational improvement, including sensible automation.


• Security and compliance. The security program end to end: endpoint protection, monitoring, identity and access, and privileged access. You lead compliance to SOC 2, ISO 27001, and NIST, and ensure incident response and disaster recovery are maintained, exercised, and evidenced rather than assumed.


• End-user computing and service management. The employee technology experience: device provisioning, identity lifecycle, onboarding and offboarding, a responsive service desk, and the collaboration and meeting-room technology the business relies on every day.


• Microsoft 365 and cloud. Administration of Microsoft 365 and Azure to a high standard of availability and security, and support for the company's broader cloud direction (AWS, Azure) in partnership with Development and Data.


• Vendor, licensing, and budget. The vendor and licensing estate (a value-added reseller model plus a large supplier base), leading renewals, negotiations, and repricing, managing third-party and concentration risk, and owning the annual IT budget and forecast with Finance while delivering measurable savings.


• Strategy, governance, and team. An IT roadmap aligned to business objectives, sound governance and reporting for the executive team, and the leadership, standards, coverage model, and development of the IT team.

First year priorities

• SOC 2 and resilience. Lead the SOC 2 attestation end to end (gap analysis, penetration testing, tabletop exercises) and bring business continuity and disaster recovery to a tested, evidenced state.


• Infrastructure modernisation. Deliver the migrations already in flight, including VMware to Hyper-V and consolidation onto the Microsoft platform, without disrupting the business.


• Cost and vendor discipline. Rationalise the licensing and vendor estate and lead key repricing events (including the Microsoft CSP change), with quantified savings.


• Enable modernisation. Support the company's cloud and AI-tooling direction in partnership with Development and Data, so IT accelerates delivery rather than blocking it.

What you'll bring

• 8+ years in IT with 3+ years leading teams, ideally as an IT manager or director in a software, data, or technology company.


• Depth across infrastructure, virtualisation, networking, storage, and backup and disaster recovery, with strong Microsoft 365 and Azure administration (AWS an asset).


• Demonstrable security and compliance experience: leading or supporting SOC 2 or ISO 27001, penetration testing, identity and access governance, and incident response.


• Strong vendor and budget management, with a track record of measurable savings on a multi-million-dollar operating base.


• A record of modernisation delivered without disrupting the business (data-centre or hypervisor migrations, on-premise to cloud, tooling consolidation).


• A clear communicator who translates technical risk into business terms for the executive team, and a pragmatic, hands‑on leader and mentor.


• Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. Relevant certifications (CISSP, CISM, ITIL, PMP) are an asset.


• Oil-and-gas or energy-sector context, and experience supporting product or engineering environments (cloud, CI/CD, developer tooling), are assets.


• Exposure to rolling out AI tooling (such as Microsoft Copilot) across a workforce is a plus.


• A security-first, service-minded approach, high personal integrity, and the drive to build consensus and keep improving.
