What You'll Be Doing

The Global Mining team provides investment banking services to metals & mining companies worldwide, covering North America, Europe, South America, Asia, and Australia. Our services include M&A, financial advisory, debt, equity, and loan capital markets, as well as risk management solutions. We operate from offices in Toronto, Vancouver, London, Sydney, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Bogota.

Clients rely on CIBC’s Global Mining team for M&A advisory, financing, and lending products. We have led major transactions in gold and base metals and played key roles in industry-defining mergers and acquisitions. Our platform and expertise help clients meet their goals, including those related to the energy transition.

As a Director, you will work on transactions that impact the firm's bottom line, including deal execution, client relationship building, and internal communication. You will have opportunities to influence client strategies and interact with senior executives and boards. You will also mentor Analysts and Associates.

The role is dynamic and demanding, requiring dedication, industry passion, and a strong work ethic. Flexibility in personal time commitments is necessary.

Work arrangements (on-site vs. remote) will be discussed during interviews.

How You'll Succeed
  • Proposals: Lead the preparation of client proposals and pitchbooks, managing Analysts and Associates. Conduct industry and financial analysis to support recommendations.
  • Transaction Execution: Manage client mandates and transactions, acting as the main contact for deal teams and clients.
  • Research: Conduct industry research to identify investment opportunities.
  • Financial Analysis: Lead complex financial modeling and valuation, providing recommendations.
  • Due Diligence: Assist in company due diligence investigations.
  • Relationship Building: Develop internal and external networks, coordinate client meetings, and liaise with other units.
  • Culture: Support CIBC’s “Culture of Care” through community involvement.
  • Mentoring: Manage and mentor junior team members, providing feedback.
Who You Are
  • Industry Experience: Minimum 5 years in investment banking, corporate finance, private equity, or related fields. Mining experience is a plus.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal skills to communicate complex analyses clearly.
  • Success-Oriented: Motivated, responsible, with high career aspirations.
  • Education: Degree in finance, accounting, mathematics, engineering, computer science, or economics. Additional qualifications like CA, CFA, MBA are assets.
  • Financial Skills: Expertise in valuation, cash flow, and return analyses, and understanding of accounting principles.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, FactSet, Bloomberg.
  • Relationship Skills: Strong interpersonal skills for client and internal relationships.
  • Values: Alignment with trust, teamwork, and accountability.
