General Description:
Reporting to the VP, Finance, the Director, Financial Reporting will be responsible for external and internal financial reporting, consolidations, complex accounting, systems management, corporate accounting and forecasting, and maintaining effective internal controls. This role will also lead and develop a team of direct reports.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate preparation of the Company’s external consolidated IFRS financial statements and accompanying notes on a quarterly and annual basis
- Oversee monthly consolidation of financial results and analysis of financial information as reported by the Company’s subsidiaries
- Research complex accounting matters and emerging accounting issues, prepare memorandums and provide training
- Prepare reporting for the Executive team and Audit Committee
- Manage timelines and deliverables for quarterly reviews and year-end audit
- Liaise with global Finance teams on accounting policies and complex accounting matters
- Maintain effective internal controls relating to the consolidation and external reporting
- Prepare group accounting policies and guidelines, and monitor adherence by the Company’s operating sites
- Ensure compliance with Extractive Sector Transparency Measures Act, including coordinating reporting across the Company’s business units and ensuring internal controls are in place
- Lead the budgeting and forecasting process for the corporate office (G&A)
- Oversee corporate entity and holding company accounting including local accounts payable, expense reports, credit card management and liaise with Treasury and Tax teams on cash management, FX strategy, inter-company transactions and management fees
- Lead, train, mentor and motivate a team of 7 (2 Managers, 2 Financial Analysts, 3 Accountants) in all aspects of accounting and reporting
- Oversee and administer the organization’s financial reporting tools and systems including SAP S/4HANA, disclosure management tools, and consolidation tools
- Manage and execute on various financial projects and initiatives including but not limited to process improvements, automation, and operation efficiency
Required Skills and Competencies:
- CPA designation is required
- 12+ years of progressive work experience, with experience in mining and ideally with a mix of public accounting and industry experience
- Ability to travel as needed to operating sites
- Knowledge of principles of consolidation and public company reporting requirements, with advanced knowledge of IFRS
- Experience in accounting/consolidation systems (e.g.: Wdesk, Cognos Controller, SAP S/4 Hana, etc.) and adaptability with learning new applications
- Excellent communication skills (written, oral and presentation), excellent interpersonal and management skills, with the ability to interact with different groups and levels within the organization
- Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential issues in a public company
- Demonstrated, outstanding ability to work under pressure in a busy office with frequent interruptions, changing priorities and tight deadlines
