Join Providence Health Care (PHC) at a pivotal moment in our history. As we prepare to open the $2 billion new St. Paul’s Hospital and health campus in 2027, we’re seeking a visionary Director of Financial Planning & Reporting to help shape the financial strategy behind one of Canada’s most ambitious health care projects.

This is more than a finance role—it’s a chance to lead transformational change in health care delivery, working alongside passionate leaders and clinicians to build a future-focused, integrated care model.

Key Responsibilities

Based in Vancouver, BC, this hybrid (3 days onsite) role will see you lead the strategic direction and operational oversight of Providence’s financial planning and reporting functions.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Leading the development of PHC’s operating and capital budgets, multi-year financial forecasts, and business plans.
  • Overseeing monthly and annual financial reporting for internal and external stakeholders, including the Executive Team, Board, and Vancouver Coastal Health.
  • Driving financial performance monitoring, variance analysis, and resource optimization across clinical and support programs.
  • Supporting the financial planning and execution of the new St. Paul’s Hospital project, ensuring alignment with long-term strategic goals.
  • Leading and mentoring a high-performing team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

What You Bring

Education, Training and Experience

  • A CPA designation (CMA, CGA, or CA) and a degree in Finance, Business, Commerce, or a related field.
  • Extensive leadership experience in financial planning and reporting within a large, complex organization—health care experience is a strong asset.

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and apply analytical methodologies and processes to support the operations of a large organization.
  • Advanced skills in critical thinking, complex problem-solving, planning, project management, change management, and group processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to bring together and lead diverse groups collaboratively.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, across all organizational levels.
  • Ability to function effectively in a highly dynamic environment with changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Effective facilitation skills and the ability to motivate and influence leaders.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in preparing and reviewing business case proposals.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and achieve work-life balance.

(Included but not limited to)

  • Overseeing financial services for PHC clinical and support programs, collaborating with program leaders and executives on annual operating budgets and ongoing financial performance monitoring.
  • Contributes to and implements organization-wide budget management strategies, aligning strategic priorities with operational and budget plans.
  • Manages development, monitoring, analysis, and assessment of organizational financial and workload performance.
  • Develops reporting mechanisms for forecasting PHC's financial position and ensuring compliance with internal, provincial, and public requirements.
  • Provides portfolio performance monitoring, evaluation, and forecasting through Executive Performance Reports and periodic analysis.
  • Sets short- and long-term goals for the Financial Planning Team, ensuring alignment with PHC's goals, policies, and vision.
  • Develops and reviews departmental policies and standards, oversees operational budgets including preparation, authorization control, and expenditure reporting.
  • Manages organization-wide financial and activity budgets under the Executive Director's direction.
  • Implements a quality improvement program to enhance client satisfaction and identify areas for operational improvement.
  • Recommends departmental structures and supervises, recruits, and mentors staff, ensuring performance management and training needs are met.
