Job summary

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of relevant compensation experience across NA and EMEA.
  • Experience designing, building, and managing global compensation and equity programs.
  • Strong financial modeling capabilities and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with confidence working with senior leadership and Board.
  • Ability to manage multiple strategic projects alongside tactical responsibilities.

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for aDirector, Compensationbased inCanada.

This is a senior leadership opportunity focused on shaping global compensation strategy across a fast-growing, technology-driven organization. You will lead the evolution of bonus, long-term incentive, and equity programs while ensuring they remain competitive, motivating, and aligned with business performance. The role combines strategic compensation design with financial modeling, technology, automation, and employee experience. You will build tools and frameworks that give leaders, managers, and employees greater visibility and confidence around compensation decisions. Working closely with Finance, Legal, Talent Management, Talent Acquisition, and senior leadership, you will influence programs with organization-wide impact. This is an ideal role for an analytical and innovative compensation leader who enjoys solving complex problems and turning compensation into a strategic business advantage.


Accountabilities
  • Lead the design and ongoing evolution of global bonus and long-term incentive programs, connecting individual and organizational performance to clear, motivating outcomes.
  • Own the strategy and design of global equity programs supporting attraction, retention, performance differentiation, and long-term employee engagement.
  • Partner with Finance and Legal on equity mechanics, dilution modeling, governance requirements, and senior leadership or Board approvals.
  • Develop and maintain compensation tools that enable Talent Acquisition teams to make competitive offers and help business partners, managers, and employees understand compensation programs, budgets, and processes.
  • Build scalable compensation infrastructure and processes that allow the compensation function to respond efficiently to offers, internal mobility, new roles, and evolving business requirements.
  • Partner with Talent Management to strengthen pay-for-performance alignment and ensure compensation outcomes are clearly understood across the organization.
  • Leverage technology, automation, and AI to improve compensation modeling, program design, budgeting, analytics, and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor market data, peer practices, regulatory developments, pay transparency requirements, workforce trends, and emerging compensation practices to proactively inform strategy.
  • Develop innovative compensation solutions that balance employee experience, market competitiveness, financial discipline, and business objectives.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across functions and levels, including senior executives and Board-level leaders, to prioritize opportunities and solve complex compensation challenges.
  • Balance strategic initiatives with tactical priorities, maintaining high-quality execution and attention to detail across the compensation lifecycle.
Requirements
  • 7+ years of relevant compensation experience, including designing and managing global compensation structures across multiple markets such as North America and EMEA.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, building, and managing global compensation and equity programs.
  • Experience in a high-growth business or similarly dynamic environment is strongly preferred.
  • Expert financial modeling capabilities and strong analytical skills, with the ability to evaluate complex compensation scenarios and translate data into practical recommendations.
  • Strong knowledge of compensation technology, analytics, automation, and other tools that improve efficiency and decision-making.
  • Ability to think strategically, creatively, and operationally while maintaining a strong understanding of business and financial requirements.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with confidence working across all organizational levels, including senior leadership and Board stakeholders.
  • Strong complex problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate ambiguity and competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple strategic projects alongside tactical day-to-day compensation responsibilities.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize effectively, learn quickly, work independently, and take ownership of complex initiatives.
  • Proven ability to build trusted relationships and collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders across Finance, Legal, Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, and business leadership.
  • Intellectual curiosity and an interest in using technology, automation, and AI to modernize compensation practices.
