Position Overview

Our client is an established Canadian Commercial Mortgage Investment Firm with multiple investment funds and a current AUM of $850M. Driven by strong performance, the firm continues to expand its fundraising platforms. They are currently seeking a Director, Institutional Capital Raising to undertake capital-raising activities to expand the firm’s institutional investor base. The Director will be responsible for growing and managing the organization’s relationships in the institutional market through outreach to prospective investors, cultivating new relationships, and navigating sophisticated institutions to secure additional investment into the firm.

The preferred candidate will have 5+ years of experience in private market capital raising, ideally within private alternative strategies and with deep knowledge of issues facing private market investors. This role will be externally facing with heavy interaction with current and prospective fund investors and will interface extensively with senior leaders and investment professionals in the firm.

The ideal candidate will be a strategic relationship builder with a track record within the institutional investor landscape in Canada. This is an exciting opportunity for a high caliber and driven capital raiser to be impactful in driving growth and expansion within an entrepreneurial organization.

Role Responsibilities

  • Drive strategy for coverage of prospective investors and maintain accountability for success.
  • 5+ years of experience with private markets institutional capital raising with a real estate or alts focus with proven success in setting and achieving capital raising goals including a quantifiable track record of raising capital.
  • Ability to attract new institutional investors to the company’s investment funds including corporate and public pensions, consultants, endowments, foundations, and family offices in Canada.
  • Particularly strong connectivity with small and medium sized institutions and consultants.
  • Strong relationship management skills and ability to effectively communicate with both internal and external parties in a professional manner.
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of industry trends and share insights gained from investors with internal stakeholders in an effort to position the broader group for success and to aid in new product development initiatives.

Desired Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree preferably in commerce, finance or economics; additional credentials including MBA or CFA considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in private markets capital raising.
  • Familiarity with real assets and/or alternative assets a benefit.
  • Proven track record of successful fundraising and/or relationship management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a particular strength in dealing with a wide variety of individuals at various levels within and outside of the organization.
  • Proactive self-starter able to handle pressure effectively.
