Chief & Council Volunteer Merritt, BC $30,000 CAD per year

Lower Nicola Indian Band Development Corporation (“LNIBDC”)

Location: In-person in Merritt, BC (remote if necessary)

Commitment: Monthly virtual meetings, quarterly in-person meetings + occasional additional participation

Compensation: Up to $30,000/year

About the Corporation

LNIBDC is the wholly owned economic development entity of the Lower Nicola Indian Band (the "Nation"). The role of LNIBDC is to promote prosperity and self-determination for the Nation through sustainable business development that aligns with the Nation’s goals and values.

Current focus areas may include land and resource development, construction, partnerships with private sector entities, and the creation of employment and training opportunities for members of the Nation.

The Opportunity

We are looking for qualified and dedicated professionals to join the Board of Directors of the LNIBDC. This is a valuable opportunity to contribute to the strategic economic development that supports the Nation's long-term vision.

Board Directors are responsible for providing governance and oversight for the activities of the LNIBDC, ensuring that operations align with the Nation's economic, environmental, and cultural priorities. Meetings will be held quarterly, with options available for remote participation.

Key Responsibilities

Board members are expected to:

• Oversee business operations, financial reporting, and risk management.


• Contribute to long-term planning and strategic initiatives.


• Support good governance practices and ensure compliance with relevant laws and policies.


• Review and assess budgets, financial statements, and project performance.


• Act with integrity and in the best interests of the Nation and the corporation.


• Avoid conflicts of interest and promote transparency.


• Engage with community members, leadership, and stakeholders.

Ideal Candidates Will Have

• Experience in business, finance, governance, resource development, or economic planning.


• Knowledge of law and accounting.


• Familiarity with corporate or non-profit governance, including an understanding of fiduciary duties.


• Ability to think strategically and provide high-level guidance.


• Commitment to supporting Indigenous economic self-determination.


• Experience working with or for Indigenous communities is a plus.


• A teamwork-oriented mindset with a focus on achieving results.
