Job description

First Student is the largest school transportation provider in North America with more than a century of experience providing safe and reliable transportation. We work with 1,250 school districts in 39 states and 8 Canadian provinces carrying approximately five million students in 21,000 schools daily.

Regional Maintenance Manager

Provides expert support to a smaller group of locations, Location Managers and Shop Managers on First Student standard maintenance operations. This support is in conjunction with guidance and support from the RMM. Provides annual detailed inspection of covered shops to support ongoing consistent improvement. Monitors location progress to lean action plans. Communicates and trains maintenance best practices.

Major Responsibilities

  • Ensures shop personnel follow all safety SOPs and protocols in support of a safe and effective maintenance facility.
  • Communicating and training maintenance policies and procedures, including best practices.
  • Ability to navigate and lead change management initiatives.
  • Extensive knowledge of the SAAQ's policies and procedures.
  • Comfortable with systems and policies to ensure regional compliance.
  • Familiar with the Preventative maintenance program, PEP.
  • Conducts quality control inspections of locations and vehicles.
  • Develops lean action plans with Shop Manager and track's locations achievement of action plans.
  • Ensures compliance with all SOPs and FS Lean Shop Maintenance Practices
  • Ensures opportunities for warranty recovery are captured.
  • Ensures opportunities for warranty recovery are captured
  • Drives effective Campaign and Recall completion.
  • Oversees target fleet availability ensuring max up time through asset management.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Experience & Skills Required

  • 5+ years experience in transportation specifications and applications, and the development of maintenance standards.
  • Broad knowledge of vehicle maintenance
  • Bilingualism in French and English
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent leadership and analytical skills
  • Capable of managing multiple priorities and meeting of deadlines.
  • Computer proficient.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a team player.
  • Strong financial and budgetary skills. Able to plan strategically.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Incumbent must be able to move about the office and between floors; utilize standard office equipment; access filing system / cabinets; and communicate effectively and efficiently in person or by telephone.
  • Maintenance shop and school bus yard environment
  • Travel up to 50% across the Province of Quebec.
