Job summary

DABS, Inc. provides supported living services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We are seeking a DSP/Personal Attendant who will supervise individuals in home and community settings, support ADLs, and monitor health and safety with compassion and respect.

The role requires 2–3 years of direct support experience, IPP/ISP/BSP familiarity, and crisis intervention training. Employment includes background checks, TB clearance, CPR/First Aid, and a California driver’s license

Qualifications

  • 2–3 years of direct support experience with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Experience with individuals with complex behavioral or mental health needs preferred.
  • Experience implementing IPP, ISP and BSPs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision within the home and community.
  • Assist with ADLs: bathing, toileting, dressing, hygiene.
  • Supervise medication administration when needed.
  • Transport to medical appointments.
  • Implement Behavior Support Plans to prevent/de-escalate.
  • Apply crisis prevention/intervention during severe episodes.
  • Observe and report changes to the supervisor.
  • Complete daily logs and progress notes.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings.

As a DSP/Personal Attendant, you will provide individualized support to adults with developmental disabilities receiving Supported Living Services. The primary focus of this role is the active supervision of individuals to ensure their health and safety, while providing occasional hands-on assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) for individuals with complex needs. You will provide incidental behavioral prevention and intervention support, operate with increased independence, and be responsible for maintaining service quality and helping ensure a stable living environment.

Your Impact in Action
  • Provide consistent, person-centered supervision within the individual’s home and community.
  • Supervise and provide occasional hands-on support for Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including:
    • Bathing, toileting, dressing, and personal hygiene
    • Preparing meals and feeding
    • Light housekeeping and laundry
  • Supervise medication administration when needed.
  • Accompany and/or transport the individual to medical and personal appointments.
  • Implement established Behavior Support Plans (BSP) to prevent and de-escalate outbursts or mental health symptoms.
  • Apply crisis prevention and intervention techniques (e.g., Safety-Care or CPI) during severe episodes to ensure immediate safety.
  • Observe and report changes in health, behavior, and/or environments to the supervisor.
  • Complete daily logs and progress notes in compliance with DDS, Regional Center, and agency standards.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and other activities as needed.
Your Readiness to Serve
  • 2–3 years of experience providing direct support to individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Prior experience working with individuals with complex behavioral or mental health needs is preferred.
  • Proficiency in implementing Individual Program Plan (IPP), Individual Service Plan (ISP) and BSPs.
  • Prior training in Safety Care or crisis intervention (e.g. CPI or equivalent) is preferred.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills and the ability to make discretionary decisions that prioritize individual safety and autonomy.
  • Ability to maintain professional relationships with families and stakeholders.
  • Ability to maintain high standards of professional ethics, including punctual attendance.
  • Ability to provide care with empathy, cultural sensitivity, and respect for personal values.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and document observations accurately.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a background check and maintaining the following requirements throughout your tenure:

  • Tuberculosis (TB) clearance in accordance with California public health guidelines.
  • Valid CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of current automobile insurance if the position requires transporting individuals.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, and assist individuals with mobility as needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 25–40 pounds if required.
  • Ability to travel within the community.
Our Commitment to You
  • Pay range: $26.00 - $29.00 per hour, paid weekly. This represents the anticipated hourly range for our Direct Support Positions. Actual compensation will depend on position, experience, qualifications, and program assignment.
